A 32" 6 lb Box...USPS is almost $98 and UPS comes up at $34...both Ground.
Can I trust that the UPS figure is even close to what it will end up being once delivered?

No you can't trust the UPS cost as the gospel. They can bill you for fuel surcharges and change the cost you pay after it's shipped.. If you want to trust that cost take the package to UPS and let them tell you what it will cost and you pay for the label at the counter.

Get a rough estimate of the UPS cost on the UPS website. However, be sure to enter accurate information to get an accurate quote.
At 6 lbs, USPS will be via Priority Mail. My guess is that the Priority Mail service would be delivered quicker than the UPS ground service. Hence, more of a price difference.
Do you research accordingly & make a good business decision!
Good luck!

To get an accurate discount quote either use your own UPS account, or use PirateShip (free), which is often cheaper than ebay.

PirateShip is where the quotes came from.

Then I would ship through PirateShip and not have ebay in the middle. Note that shipping with your own account is still best, if you have the discounts needed.
With PirateShip you still will be using a third party account, but unlike ebay, PirateShip has a clear protocol in place for filing a claim and will assist you if you need help. Plus I have never had a back charge using PirateShip.

That's reassuring.(about PirateShip)

Yes, PirateShip is fast growing to be everyone's favorite. They are quick to answer questions and work to implement new features and improvements. We can only hope they never sell out to Stamps.com like almost every other one has.

If you ship UPS through Pirateship, aren't you using THEIR account, so if there is an issue they are the shipper of record and not you - just like using Ebay labels? Would they be cooperative in an issue like damage or insurance?
I don't ship UPS and am just curious.

Yes, PirateShip uses their account, so they are shipper of record, but at least they have a clear protocol for handling problems and are willing to help you with your claim. Plus they have been quite responsive anytime I have contacted them.
Of course it is always best to use your own account, but unless you are set up for good discounts, and even then PirateShip will be a bit lower. PirateShip also checks to see which UPS service will be a lowest cost between UPS Flat Rate or Regular Rate. Their service also integrates directly with ebay to import orders and upload tracking, which your own account would not do.
