UPS Shipping Charge of $1250

I sent an item using the UPS shipping option.  When I measured and weighed the item the quote was for $28.  Then Today I noticed the shipping for this item was $1250.  Does anybody know how to get this corrected?  I would never have shipped it UPS knowing the charge was going to be this high.  I sold the item for $50.

What were the dimensions of the shipping carton? If you have the weight and dimensions you can use the eBay shipping calculator to see the correct UPS charges. My guess is that it's just a system glitch. The UPS weighs and dim's every package as it gets sorted and should have a digital image too.

This same SCAM was perpetrated on me by UPS and EBAY!  This is illegal and I hope somebody faces criminal and civil charges for this type of deceptive business practice!

It took over 30 Phone calls and me hiring a actual attorney to even get EBAY to admit that they were wrong and this drama is still ongoing.

We are still waiting for a response/proof from UPS but apparently this has happened many many times to Ebay Sellers and Ebay knows that UPS is pushing this SCAM and claims there is nothing they can do.

EBAY gives me a quote of $27 to ship 11Lbs, I ship it. Two weeks later then updates it to say it weighed 46lbs and they want to 18X the shipping cost. I HAVE VIDEO OF ME WEIGHING THE PACKAGE! Ill sue these morons back to stone age and start a rag tag team of class actions against this whole industry while Im at it.

Trust me ive got nothing but time & money to waste pursuing this matter and will gladly make it my focus every day until its made right! You do not steal from the COMMON MAN!

UPS now has a new enemy and they will remember my name when I'm done with these clowns.

What were the dimensions of the package @osionline?

UPS Shipping Charge of $1250

Both packages were

46"x6"x18"

Under the 108" Length Requirement

Under the 108" L+W+H requirement

under the 165" Length Plus Girth Requirement

Weighed 11LBs & 13Lbs Respectively and Have video of the fully sealed packages being placed on a scale.

Quoted at $27 Shipped & $33 Shipped WITH INSURANCE!

UPS claims they weighed 36Lbs & 46Lbs respectively and charged the account roughly 17x on one and 18x on the other. They claim due to the weigh they fall into "Special Sizing Categories"

Apparently they overweigh packages at UPS to cause them to kick out additional fees because UPS is losing money and there employees are being incentivized to find packages they can charge more on.

So some kid somewhere saw my large packages and thought lets put this on a scale, press down real hard and create free money for both UPS and himself.

This is a scam and UPS incentivizes there people to do this for $, EBAY claims they are powerless.

EBAY is powerless against a corporation scamming thier own customers, yeah thanks EBAY great job!

No wonder EBAY STOCK is in the toliet, the whole world of wall street is continuing to BET against EBAY and it is starting to show why because Sellers are leaving this site in Mass DROVES RN, profits for Ebay are way down.

Ive been doing Ebay for only 3 months now but I used to have an account back in 2006 that had over 7,000 positive FB for a refurbished cellphone company and I have seen many issues with Ebay over the years but this one takes the cake as a example of Ebay not standing up for thier customers (sellers) and letting another entity use and abuse the client base.

girth = w*2 + h*2

18"x2=36"

6"*2=12"

Girth = 48"

Length was 46"

total 94" under the 108" Requirement

Package weighed 11Lbs and 13lbs a guitar and bass guitar. you can verify online that guitars do not weight 30+lbs and bass guitars do not weigh 40+Lbs.

Those were the only items in the box besides some bubble wrap.

So your package was 18x6x46

UPS divisor to determine dimensional weight is 139

18 x 6 x 46 / 139 = 35.74

You should have been charged for a 36 pound package when billed at the end of the month. UPS will charge based on whichever is greater between actual weight and dimensional weight.

The package you were billed 36 lbs for is accurate, but the package you were billed 46 lb for was off, assuming the dimensions you noted were correct.

eBay's shipping calculator does not factor in dimensional weight for UPS or FedEx (works great for USPS).

So part of the problem is eBay's calculator and the other part of the problem is that you didn't understand how UPS rates were billed.

To make it work with eBay and ensure the buyer is charged the correct rate when you're shipping UPS, you need to enter the dimensional weight into the listing form then when you buy the label enter the actual weight.

It's not a good system by any means. eBay should be factoring in dimensional weights and I don't know why their calculator will do it for USPS but not for other services.

Wow you are amazing! Thank you for clarifying that.

The 46lb dimensional weight comes from the second box being 2" longer. I didn't mention that.

Your Math basically checks out.. dimensional weight..

Expensive lesson to learn but thank you so much for taking the time and helping me understand how UPS came to this conclusion and cost. This will greatly help because they don't advertise this anywhere that I can find.

No prob. If you plan to keep shipping UPS @osionline, the best thing you can do is learn about how UPS handles billing and what all of their surcharges are (fuel, residential, etc). The surcharges will change throughout the year including adding a significant surcharge during the holiday shipping period. If you have any questions about setting up the shipping on your listings just start a new post on this forum. It's better to start a new discussion so you get relevant replies and others don't reply to the original poster's (old) issue instead of yours. Plus, the mods tend to lock discussions that are 6+ mo old and cut off the discussion.

Also, go here and read all the FAQs at the bottom. Billable/dimensional weight is discussed.
