Hey, new to ebay. Just sold an item that's about 3lbs. I offered free shipping but accounted the price for FedEx delivery into the total sale price. The issue is, the buyer has a PO box and UPS and FedEx do NOT deliver to those. Lesson learned.
How do I proceed with this because as you all know, the USPS price for anything over 2lbs is INSANE? I messaged the buyer with an apology and asked if there was another address I could deliver to OR could I charge him an additional $4 for shipping. What else would you guys suggest? What if he says NO to both of those options? Am I still obligated to ship it (yes, of course is what I'm thinking).
Also, how can I prevent this from happening in the future? I know you guys are so experienced, and I'm just so new so any insight would help! Thanks!
Kyle

Just message the customer and ask them for their FedEx/UPS shipping address. I have never had a customer not provide it. Also, some people put both the PO box and their street address in their shipping info. Is that the case here? You can then edit out the PO box. I have always found that under 8 pounds going no more than 2-3 states away, the USPS is cheapest. Most cases at 2 pounds, they are cheapest even across country.
Also, FedEx Surepost will deliver to a PO box since they use USPS for the final delivery.

I said "surepost"..I meant Smartpost....I think UPS has the surepost.

When you see both a street address and a PO box # in the shipping info, it is sometimes the actual street address of that post office and apparently FedEx and others WILL deliver to that address.

I believe you are correct on that, but last time I had that happen I had to delete the PO box out to get Ebay to print the label. It would not show me anything else but USPS rates until I did. Either way, it has always made it to the buyer.

I think you will find that USPS is far cheaper than UPS or Fedex, unless you are talking about something huge.

Contact your buyer and ask them for there street address
or
cancel the transaction stating problem with buyers address.
make sure you add the disclaimer to your listing that that listing has to ship to a street address and not a PO Box.
