Tracking number problem

Maybe it's just me, but I find it very misleading and just plain wrong when you check your purchase history and see that an item has shipped, but when you click on the tracking number, all it says is that a tracking number has been provided. That does not necessarily mean that the item shipped. All it means is that electronic information was sent to the post office, UPS, Fed Ex or any other ship method that the seller has decided to use, and they printed a label. That is all. The carrier does not have physical posession of the item yet. For example, last night, I purchased an item. Now mind you, it was a Sunday, late in the evening, but a few hours later, the item showed as shipped. On a Sunday? Really? Post offices and places like Fed Ex drop locations and UPS locations are closed on Sundays. Checking the item this morning, no difference. No movement, no pick up or posession scan. I've had this happen MANY times before in my years here on Ebay and I just don't think it's right. I always pay for my items in a timely matter and I feel that shipping should be the same. I've had it to where it was over a week, still showing the same status of tracking number provided with no movement or pick up scan.  I feel like this needs to change and sellers be held accountable for this.

Um.....it is EBAY that tells you the item is shipped as soon as the seller prints the label. Please blame the right party here. It’s eBay NOT the sellers. And eBay does NOT want to change the wording they use, both buyers and have sellers have complained about this for years and eBay has ignored them. FWIW most retailers send out shipping notices with tracking numbers well before the item has actually shipped, I hope you complain to them too!

Was your response intended to be helpful? It was not, and might I add that I never  placed blame on the seller. It's all on Ebay. However, with that being said, it is up to the seller, once the item has been marked as shipped to actually ship it out in a timely matter. Ebay has nothing to do with that.  I'm also well aware that many retailers practice the same policy. I deal with it on a daily basis, I work for Fed Ex, and it causes nothing but problems.

Tracking number problem

I have a 2 day handling time.  I print labels on Friday,  Sunday, Saturday, Holiday as I do not know when my power may be off, or my internet out. I do not have to get the item scanned  until the 2nd business day. Buy from me on Friday night. Scan can be Tuesday.

You already understand that eBay shows shipped when the label is printed, and you already understand that it is not updated until it is scanned, so you are way ahead of many buyers.

Your only concern is that the item arrives on, or about the estimated (estimated by eBay, and not always a good estimate) delivery date.

But who's to say the seller DID ship on time and the package wasn't scanned? Look around these boards for sellers complaining about not getting scans. As already mentioned, the only time you need to pay attention to is the last estimated delivery date.

Personally, I would like ebay to change their wording when a seller buys postage through  them. But I'm not holding my breath.
