Tracking not showing up in the system

Am I the only one that's having an issue with tracking and USPS?  I have shipped a lot of things over the last month and a lot of my tracking numbers are showing like I have not shipped.  I have a collection of customers asking where their items are that I shipped many days ago.  I'm worried that I'll have claims for items that didn't get there that were indeed delivered.

Tracking not showing up in the system

I have two packages missing now that were shipped on July 8th.     There are no scans showing up at all other than my purchased label and tracking number.    It looks like I never took them to the post office.      If they never show up or never have scans, I doubt if my USPS insurance will kick in either.    I have had great USPS service from my local small post office so I don't suspect thief either yet.

Do you have your packages scanned when you drop them off or have them picked up?

Have a great day.

So far, I've had crackerjack USPS service. My carrier scans at my mailbox. Sorry you're having trouble.

This is normal. My post office doesn't do any acceptance scans at all any more. Items don't show any tracking results until they arrive at a sort facility in the destination state. So sometimes it can take up to two weeks before the tracking shows anything other than "Preshipment". A lot of buyers don't understand this and open up INR requests thinking their items haven't yet shipped.

Yes, I've noticed scanning and tracking irregularities.

IMO the PO is out to 'sell' upgraded tracking as an option and as an end to that means is fiddling with what we know as regular tracking.

And, so, what do you do in response to the inr?

Tracking not showing up in the system

There's nothing much I can do. I have a generic response written out that I send to the buyer and paste into the case in which I let the buyer know the date the item shipped, explain that it simply hasn't been scanned yet, assure them it's on the way, apologize profusely for the delay, and politely ask that they wait a few more days to see if the tracking shows anything.

So far I've been very lucky that each package ended up getting scanned for the first time no more than 1 to 2 days after the INR was opened. Buyers usually can't escalate until they've waited 3 days. So it's usually safe to simply wait for 2 days after the request is opened and cross your fingers, hoping it gets scanned during that grace period. For me, that's exactly what has happened every time. As soon as it gets that first scan I use the callback option and ask customer service to put a 10-day hold on the request.

All of my items were delivered to the buyers before the 10-day holds expired. So I was simply able to use the callback feature again and have them closed in my favor once the tracking showed delivered.

Obviously it's not ideal. But I've been lucky so far not to actually lose any money yet due to the lack of tracking. I'm sure I will soon though. If, for example, a buyer opened an INR and the tracking still didn't show anything 2 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes later, I'd have to either refund them or risk them escalating and having the case decided in their favor automatically. That would result in an uresolved case strike, though it could maybe be removed if the tracking later showed delivered and I appealed the case. But that's a pretty big risk to take, so depending on the item it might be better to just refund. That's also why I only ship inexpensive items by USPS. Anything expensive gets shipped by Fedex, since Fedex tracking in my area is still very reliable (*knock on wood*).
