Tips for dealing with unreasonable return request?

I sold a 10% off coupon recently, and I included all of the fine print in the listing and instructed bidders to contact me before bidding if they wanted me to test and see if the coupon worked on a specific item they were interested in buying--which of number of potential buyers did. I specified in the listing that I could not offer refunds once I sent the code.

The winning bidder paid for the item, I send the coupon code, and the next day he is requesting a refund. Does anyone have any tips for how to deal with a situation like this? I have no way of knowing if he successfully used the code and it simply taking advantage of eBay's return policy to get his money back.

Thank you.

Has buyer opened a case, or just asking for a refund.

If they file an INR case, you'll probably be refunding, since you didn't ship anything.

Have a great day.

Probably not a good idea to sell this kind of thing here.  I think it will just cause you issues and potentially damage your selling account with either returns, bad feedback or both.

I don't think there is a lot you can do about this one.  Chances are the buyer used the code and now just wants their money back.

You just need to stay completely polite and professional.  Your goal now is to try and not tick them off so that they will hurt your feedback.

Simply tell them that you are sorry they are disappointed with their purchase.  Please file a claim with Ebay so that you can process a return for refund.

Leave it at that.  See if they go away [which they may very well do] or if they ask you further questions.  If they email you again with questions or concerns, come back here and tell us about it so we can help further advise you on this issue.

You send the code and the next day he wants a refund sounds like you sent it via email.

@indiansfan10s

You really, really need to read in full the coupons policy via the link in post #4.

Really.

Then revise or remove your listings accordingly.

"I included all of the fine print in the listing and instructed bidders to contact me before bidding if they wanted me to test and see if the coupon worked on a specific item they were interested in buying"

Even if you could win any kind of case...that statement alone makes your coupons a disaster waiting to happen. I'm selling this coupon but I have no idea if it's going to work for you???? Would you tell eBay, I told the buyer to contact me first to see if it worked...

"I have no way of knowing if he successfully used the code and it simply taking advantage of eBay's return policy to get his money back."

Your fine print proves YOU have no idea if it will EVER work because you didn't test it before listing it and it could appear to eBay you are taking advantage of eBay's buyers.

You will lose each and every time because of your own fine print. Not a good thing to list the way you are listing, like others have suggested read all of the policies and requirements for listing coupons.

Go the eBay's search>sold listings and see how others are listing the same items that have good buyer feedback and learn from them, that's the best way.

Best of luck
