Time Is A Factor

I apologize for not reading through other post to see if there is an answer because time is a factor. I had someone else ship some packages for me today and one of them needed to be sent Priority Mail. They were just dropped off a few hours ago with USPS... I see the package intercept option but is there a way to actually speed up shipping. Normally I would just kindly explain this to the customer but other factors have me assuming that this will not be an understanding individual

Re: Time Is A Factor

Package Intercept will only slow it down.

What shipping method was used? It is traveling outside of the 48 contiguous states?

Re: Time Is A Factor

I think I found my answer but it was sent first class which as I understand it is the same as Priority Mail?

Re: Time Is A Factor

1st class often gets there as fast as Priority.

Re: Time Is A Factor

Everything depends on distance.  Priority Mail is advertised as 2-3 days, but sometimes takes 4 or 5 days.  First Class Package Service varies but 2 to 7 days is about right.   Rural vs. urban origin and destination make a difference, too.

Under 500 miles, First Class package Service usually travels by truck, although it might get bumped up to air if space is available.  Beyond 500 miles, air is the norm to an urban sorting facility but truck may be required to outlying rural areas served by that facility.

If you specified Priority Mail and the buyer paid for Priority Mail, sending the package via First Class is a downgrade, the cost is much less and insurance is not included.  Your buyer may want a refund of excess postage and/or be unhappy at delivery beyond 2 or 3 days.

Re: Time Is A Factor

Do not let anyone tell you that changing a shipping method from Priority Mail to First Class Mail Parcel is a downgrade.

As far as the USPS is concerned, First Class Mail is the same as Priority Mail.  If you go to this link  https://pe.ushttps://pe.usps.com/BusinessMail101/Index?ViewName=PriorityMailps.com/BusinessMail101/I...

Re: Time Is A Factor

Luckily, I offered free shipping. I actually went and double checked her estimated delivery time and her tracking number... It will be there on time so I'm thinking the title of her shipping speed is bothering her. I explained to her that the package is arriving when stated but I truly feel that she wouldn't have been happy even if I had puppies and kittens wearing solid gold collars deliver it to her. But thanks very much for the quick answers 🙂

And yet the shipping time estimates for the two services often do not match.

One problem is that a few years ago eBay removed First Class form their official list of "expedited" services and downgraded it to their  "standard" category, so regardless of actual delivery times and regardless of official USPS policies, buyers can see FC as a lower level of service due to the eBay classification.
