Three 3 ounce labels have three different costs. Why?

The last three labels I printed were all for three ounce items. Yet they all cost me different amounts:

1. $2.96
2. $3.09
3. $2.66

All were first class USPS flat envelopes.

Why the difference? Is this a zoned shipping issue?

Yes, it is a zoned shipping issue.   In January, the USPS changed the way that they price First Class Package shipments.  The shipments are now zone based and grouped into four weight classes:  0-4 ounce, 5-8 ounce, 9-12 ounce, and 13-16 ounce.

  1. 2.96 is the price for zone 7 (0-4 ounces)
  2. 3.09 is the price for zone 9 (0-4 ounces)
  3. 2.66 is the price for zones 1 &2 (0-4 ounces)
