I sold a jetski motor bottom end, I hand delivered the item to the buyer. The buyer looked it over and was satisfied. A week later I get a request for a return. Seller states theres 'brass shavings' in the lower end. I requested pictures and he sent me ones that look like wood fiber drenched in oil, definitely not metallic in nature. Furthermore, these engines contain no brass parts. My auction lists no returns. Ebay is going to intervene tomorrow 5/5. I was just curious if I have a leg to stand in here. I told him to return the item and I'd refund him but I recieved no response to that. What should I expect to happen tomorrow because this hasnt been resolved? Thanks for the help!

Ebay will find in favor of the buyer, refund him/her, and you will get a
defect for not resolving

Accept the return if u want your item back
Buyers win nearly all cases
Useless 2 fight this return
buyer can return within 30 days of delivery thru eBay or 180 days thru paypal
Refund only after item has been returned

I had offered a refund to the buyer upon return. Hes fallen silent. At this point I think hes banking on ebay forcing a refund and getting a free motor

I hope you made that offer through the resolution center return he filed. If not, do it before ebay makes the decision, if you want the item returned to you.

The return offer was made through a message sent through his opened return request. That was 4 days ago, I have not heard back

If you handed it over in person reverse the process and go pick it up in person at a scheduled time and refund while there.

I offered that. I've had radio silence since

I agree with picking the item up in person if you want, but don't refund the item in person, it is not traceable that way. If the person is unscrupulous, they could say that you didn't refund them, and continue to try to pursue the refund through the complaint they filed. Then eBay would make you refund the payment again through Paypal.

It is critical that you click Accept the return before the end of 3 business days. It's likely your buyer has gone silent to await the Ask eBay to step in button to escalate the return request, hoping for a favorable outcome,
Then select the I cannot send a label option to force negotiations on how the item will be returned and refunded.

Kind of a bad idea to hand deliver anything. Then you have no tracking to prove delivery. I hope your buyer hasnt caught on to that.

I noted in the messages through his return request that the item was hand delivered and inspected upon delivery. It was found to be acceptable at that point.
The fact that he was messaging me back instantly until I requested he return the item for a refund seems off.

In the event of an item not received claim, Ebay does not accept any 'messages' of hand delivery, only online tracking proving delivery.

It should be pretty obvious to Ebay that the item has been recieved. Not only has the seller opened a return request but hes also sent pictures of said item. I'm not too concerned he will try to say it hasnt been recieved
