Sub-Par Tracking with FEDEX is Routine- Beware

I post this hoping that someone who actually works for eBay might take note and pass it to someone higher up, because this makes a difference-. I do this very part time so I might not notice things that others have already noticed. BUT, in my gearing up for sales this winter, it has come to my attention that "In-Store" FEDEX locations at Dollar General do not give receipts for packages to ship. I don't know if this is true for Walgreens, Walmart, Office Depot, Office max, etc. I can't imagine a large shipper such as eBay not insisting that a ship service provide receipts for packages in delivery. USPS and UPS always provide evidence that a package was left with them and do not wait until a truck driver scans a package; it is done at the counter. Anyone working at Dollar General can see my box, grab it and take it home, and I HAVE NO EVIDENCE that it was ever mailed there. I can just see a "Not Received" claim being made to eBay by a buyer, and I try to explain that, "Believe me, "trust me", I really did ship it!".  Then out comes $100 debited to my bank account which eBay has on file. FEDEX coming out of my listings today! FEDEX, the "Trust Me" shipper.

One of my local grocery stores had a USPS branch location in it.   The branch was run by the grocery store, not USPS.   That branch also did not give receipts for packages mailed there.   I'm guessing the branch was unable to give receipts because it was not tied in to the USPS computer system.    Same may be true in your case.

My solution was to go to a real post office to mail my items.

Walgreens has a scanner that they use to show acceptance into their store.  You can get this e mailed to you.  IDK what good it would do if you never received a scan from FEDEX.

I would avoid DG at all costs for everything.  I used to be a District manager for  21 of their locations.  Still have nightmares about that operation!!

This quest stands on the edge of a blade...stray but a little and you shall fail to the ruin of us all.

I've had a buyer specifically request not to ship Fedex because they are horrible right now and I completely agree.  Won't ship Fedex again until they get it together.  USPS has really stepped their game up.  UPS for large items.  Many fedex packages were lost or delayed during this time last year and I rarely use Fedex and don't ship a lot of packages.

I totally recommend USPS even if it costs you an extra dollar.  They have been sooo good lately.  Dunno what changed, but they are doing an excellent job.   EVERY single package (90% of my shipping) arrives on time.

I'm not sure anyone "higher up" at eBay is in a position to force Dollar Store employees to give receipts.

eBay is in a position to tell FEDEX that in order for it to be a shipping service used frequently on its site, it must provide eBay shippers with some form of receipt. Very simple. Not a big computer nightmare. I doubt eBay is aware. They are very sensitive to being able to document performance and procedures followed, and here, we have no document, just an empty space filled with hope that all goes well (and a pile of unscanned boxes on the ground waiting for a driver.)

Problem with this approach is that you are not shipping with fedex.   You are shipping with dollar general who happens to use fedex.

You want a fedex receipt, you take it to a real fedex location.

"You want a fedex receipt, you take it to a real fedex location".

I agree and have taken FEDEX option from my listings. However, I invite you to look at FEDEX website about "in store locations". So I don't find out about no receipt until after I've made listings and sold a $100 item. I would like to have messaged the buyer thru eBay and said thanks for the purchase and your item is on its way, not "your item may be on its way but you and I can't tell and we may have to wait 3 days to find out, but I hope so". If I want a receipt I have to drive 15 X 2 miles to drop off at a "real" location, and that's not going to happen. We sent men to the moon, we send people for joy rides around the planet. Dollar General  can provide a **bleep** receipt. eBay can persuade them to do it, or lose their shipper business. Because who's fault is it going to be if 5-finger Harry wants to add another box under his Christmas tree ?

Thanks frodobagginskennedy for the response. It would show that you (the seller) did their job and dropped it off, and if item disappears, you have proof of where that happened. Makes no difference if FEDEX gets the receipt. I'll see if i have a Walgreens location near me and check it out, thanks.

I drop all stuff off at walgreens and they have a scanner and all the packages have a scan as evidence of receipt of items. NEVER have any problems with this. They also ask if you want a confirmation email of the receipt of the items. Any employee who attempts to steal this merch will be held accountable as there is proof of the scan if the package disappears somehow.

Wherever I drop my packages I tell them I don’t need a receipt. I want to drop and go. Once it is scanned it’s in the system. Not one time have I had a problem. You are making it more complicated than it need to be.

Fine until it is not scanned into the system, then what? Some type of evidence, a hand written receipt with tracking #? That's not complicated, takes a moment. Scammers here could print a label and never drop it off, claiming it was.

I guess my overall point was, that as sellers, we assume a receipt will be given, and in some instances, it is not, especially with FEDEX.  There should be a blurb posted by ebay somewhere warning sellers to be sure to send package AND get a receipt, otherwise sellers will be liable according to eBay if things go wrong. If I had seen that, I would not have used FEDEX at Dollar General, and the FEDEX 10 miles away would be a no-go. (Receipts can be written by hand and suffice for the interim period before driver scanning).

Not sure what you want Ebay to do for a company they don't control or have nothing to do with?

Have a great day.
