I've been selling for close to 2 years and this situation really has me stumped.
I sold an item. According to the tracking info, it was refused, then delivered anyway a couple days later, then set back to me with a "return to sender" label on it. I emailed the buyer 3 times and then - through the advanced search - got their phone # and called them. They didn't answer so I left a message. I really would prefer to get in contact with them and find out what they'd like to do. If I never do hear from them then of course I'm fine with refunding them and relisting the item. However If I never hear from them and I just refund them, I receive a defect. It's too late to cancel the order, which is my fault.
Does anyone have any advice for how I should handle this without getting a defect? I did call ebay and the guy said that the only way to get this settled is for them to file a request for a refund and then for me to refund them. But then don't I lose the cost of shipping? What in the world happened to this person?! lol

so hold on to the item...see if they contact you....seems they will and who knows why they haven't...
once they do, then do the right thing, refund them ...but see what they do or say... You have done more than most would...so just see ....

Another ill informed CS rep.
You can cancel the sale without a defect if you use Problem with buyer's address as the reason.

Here is what eBay says about buyer refused deliveries.
"Generally, the buyer is responsible for accepting the item when it arrives. If the buyer refuses delivery, their claim is not eligible for the eBay Money Back Guarantee."
This except is from the eBay Money Back Guarantee - here is a link where you can find more details - http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/money-back-guarantee.html

Out of all the calls I've made to ebay, I got two people, in all five years of selling that knew what they were talking about. Most reps only know what to say in order to favor the buyer. They are actually told to protect them like some sort of celebrity kid. You will find that if you make multiple calls about the same issue, you will never get the same response.

I still have never heard back from them! I just stuck the package in a drawer and I guess I'll see what happens.
