I'm hoping these features will be accessible with the 'free eBay account' because there are numerous times when I've needed a label on the go and wished stamps or pirate offered the QR code option. Guess I'll have to download the app to find out.

Ebay already offers the use of QR codes for shipping and returns.

When I need labels on the go it's not for eBay transactions. It's usually for something like shipping inventory. Can't get labels through eBay that aren't for eBay transactions.
Having said that, I'm the go-to for helping family with shipping and often they will ask me to print labels because some of them don't have printers. eBay return label rates are often overpriced because they use averages, so the QR through stamps.com will be helpful in that situation.

Missed that OP was asking about non-ebay related labels. Hopefully PirateShip will add the QR option in the future for those that need it. Also not clear from their ads whether a free ebay Stamps.com account includes the QR feature or not.

No question in the OP, just sharing the info of the new launch for anybody that might find it helpful.
eBay transaction or not doesn't matter. stamps.com offers great reporting for shipping labels and eBay doesn't, so unless eBay offers lower rates I'd prefer to use stamps.com.

Are you using the free ebay stamps.com?

Reporting on stamps.com for the free account, while not as comprehensive as the paid account, still blows eBay and pirate out of the water. Far and away.
Yesterday I had to generate a shipping label on the fly to send a heavy box. My primary options were:
- Stop at Staples on the way (2 blocks out of the way) to the PO, pay about $3 to use their internet/computer/printer for a label from pirate or stamps.com, plus waste a bunch of time with the extra stop
- Pay full retail about $22 at the PO
- Try out the new stamps.com app
I tried the new stamps.com app. While at the PO I used the PO's SSK to weigh the package. Then I generated a QR code for Priority cubic under $7.50 on the stamps.com app.
Took 3-4 min between the time the QR was generated to the time the SSK recognized the code. There was no line behind me so I waited at the SSK for the code to activate and just kept scanning every 45 sec or so until it registered. SSK printed the label, sent a receipt to my email, dropped the package in the PO's laundry bin and off I went. Package was delivered less than 24 hours later.
