Hey everyone, I just have a simple question on delivery dates/ tracking information
I just joined ebay not too long ago and i recently placed an order for an iphone part (water accident on my end)
Upon viewing "my orders" it states that delivery would take roughly a week and that my shipment should have arrived on july 9th (yesterday). It hasnt arrived yet (atleast I hope so) but I do understand that products can arrive late from time to time.
On tracking information, it claims that my package is still "in-transit"
picture of what I am talking about:

How accurate is this? How does this update? Does the delivery man update this manually when it gets dropped off or is it an automated process?
I am just asking because I would just like to know that my package is still on its way and it did not get lost somewhere in the delivery process.
Thank you very much towards anyone who can assist me with this, everything is appreciated in advance

Where was it dispatched from?
What is the method of shipment?

Dispatched from North Hollywood, California, United States to Chicago, Illinois
Method of shipment is USPS FCM. Package is very thin so no tracking exists besides the one that ebay has to offer.
Just wondering if the ebay tracker says that it is still in transit, does that mean that the mailman manually updates it to delivered or is it automatic? Just asking to see if it is still on its way and not lost
Thanks for the quick reply by the way

No usps tracking number has been provided since the package is super small
The ebays built in tracking can be found here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/shipping-delivery/tracking-item?id=4027
I recently ordered an item in which it shows up on that link, i click on the item and it brings up the tracking dialogue that I previously linked. Just wondering how accurate it is if that answers your question
Many thanks.

Since the package doesn't have a tracking number, it can't be tracked anywhere.

Just to answer the general question about "how" ...
If an item has a tracking number, it has a barcode that gets scanned multiple times along the route, and will get a "delivered" scan by the Postal Carrier using their handheld scanner (hopefully).
These scans get uploaded to the USPS website and eBay grabs it from there.
If an item has no tracking number, there is no barcode to scan ... therefore no tracking.
If the item is a USPS letter or Flat without tracking, and the delivery address is your own residence in the United States ... you may be able to sign up for "Informed Delivery" from the USPS. The service is not available to all areas and is not available to commercial addresses.

eBay doesn't have its own built in tracking. eBay passes along information from the carrier tracking (USPS, UPS, FedEx, for example) that the seller provides.
If the package was mailed USPS and eBay shows tracking information, that info is from USPS, not eBay.

Informed delivery is also available for PO boxes.
That makes sense 🙂
