Shipping

Shipping costs have really been an issue lately for our business.  We purchase our labels through stamps.com. We have recently notice that we are not allowed to print the label without first entering the dimensions of the package which causes the shipping cost to increase dramatically in many cases.  Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to lower the amount we will have to ask for shipping on an item?

Re: Shipping

the dimensions are needed to determine any surcharges ... evidently your package requires more postage ....

Re: Shipping

Package dimensions will only affect USPS postage cost if the length is over 22 inches or the volume is over 1 cubic foot (i.e., 1728 cubic inches).  Other carriers have their own formulas for dimensional charges.

Actually, what you meant to say was which causes the shipping cost to be correctly calculated instead of underpaying the shipping because I put in the wrong and/or incomplete information and then being hit with an extra charge later resulting in me paying more than I would have spent otherwise. Thanks to the postage label printer company for saving me money and problems .

Re: Shipping

You need to put in accurate weight and dimensions when you do your listings. No surprises later on!

Re: Shipping

The only thing that I can suggest is to sell smaller things.  Shipping has gotten very, very expensive. You need to have your item pre-packed, weighed and measured when you write the ad.   Make sure that the box does not exceed the USPS dimensions that will require a surcharge. LEARN what the surcharges are and add them to the either the starting price or use calculated shipping.      As for the comment to sell smaller things, I am not trying to be funny.  I got rid of all of my used items that are long.  I only have a couple of items that weigh 2 lbs.     It will be very hard to sell inexpensive, used items that will require an expensive shipping.

THe post office raised all mail for the "holiday season " starting in Oct. 2 and ending Jan.23.  They already announced that some shipping classes will get an increase on this date!
