Shipping with different method

Question guys.

Can the seller just change the shipping method without asking you first?

As of late, I keep getting USPS Ground Advantages instead of seller offered Priority Mail or First-class mail. I thought that is breach of contract but my understanding is kinda old and haven't keep up with the recent changes, so I could be wrong.

What's up with this shipping changes? I have nothing but Ground Advantage. I don't get Priority or First class anymore.

Re: Shipping with different method

Sellers can upgrade but not downgrade.

First Class Mail is an untracked letter service and Ground Advantage is an upgrade.

First Class Package was eliminated and replaced with Ground Advantage but a lot of listings still have old data which is why sometimes you'll see First Class. It's essentially the same service so the seller is shipping as advertised in that situation.

If a seller advertises Priority then ships Ground Adv, that is a service downgrade and not allowed.

You can contact the seller and ask them to refund the cost difference if you paid a separate ship cost, but you can't force them. The only other recourse is to file a not as described claim and return the item.

Re: Shipping with different method

The OP only mentions the "seller offered priority..."  Did you select that as the shipping service when checking out, or just assuming it would ship Priority since it was offered?  Many sellers offer more than one service, and buyers select and pay accordingly.  Not sure how your items were listed or what was selected.

Re: Shipping with different method

I don't know about the Priority item.

On the two First Class ones they gave the sellers undeserved neutral feedback. If I was @nuiloa I would apologize to the sellers and ask them to send a feedback revision request and/or post a follow up reply apology to the feedback.

I'll also add in that USPS shipping is facing so many operational delays due to mismanagement and eBay is showing very unrealistic estimated delivery dates in a lot of cases. I'll also stress they are estimated delivery dates, not guarantees.

Buyers need to be more understanding of carrier delays.

Re: Shipping with different method

I think eBay goes with the most optimistic rather than the most practical.   Buyers don't want to hear 4-5, they want to hear 2-3 days.  It's a situation to get the sale by telling buyers what they want to expect,  not what is most likely to happen

Re: Shipping with different method

I had sellers  that I paid for priority  shipping  that  was the only  thing offered  ,And they down graded to USPS  Ground advantage  which is garbage  service with unexplained delays and bounce around   .   A number  of U.S. rep's I talked  with on the phone  have confirmed that sellers down grading shipping  has been a on going  issue for  last several  years  . I find it interesting  ebay hasn't  raised  the down graded  shipping UA violation  with new policy to stop it  with automictic full shipping cost refund  in the seller update's over the years .

Re: Shipping with different method

Thanks for all the input guys.

I'm not really concern about how long it takes to get here. However, as of late, I had several items that were more than two weeks to get here. One was Priority Mail that took two weeks to get here, and other were Ground Advantage that was 4 days short of one month.

I also understand that it's business days, but come on, almost a month? And yes, all of them were within US.

Anyway, my point was not the shipping time or delay, rather seller is using other method without asking or prior approval from the buyer, which I think, and it's solely my opinion, that is breach of contract.

Anyway, it seems as it's a ongoing trend that everyone have to deal with, I guess.

Lastly, I had several occasions that I DID pay for Priority Mail only for the seller to ship it Ground Advantage.

In any case, thanks guys.

Re: Shipping with different method

I did priority mail 4th of Feb. and it got delivered today on the 6th.

I offer free domestic shipping and if it's a good sale I don't mind spending the money on better shipping.

But I am looking for 'repeat buyers' in my category and this usually works when I pay for shipping out of my pocket...the buyers love it.

I don't like to nickel and dime the buyer like some other sellers.
