I indicated on an item I sold that I ship within the US. The winning bidder is in China, which I only discover after the auction ends. I'm not opposed to shipping outside the US, but I assume shipping costs and other fees will be higher. I dont want to net less on the sale because of this. Are there ways to assure I still net the full selling price?

If the buyer lives outside the US and has a shipping address in the US you will be charged an additional 1.65% fee because the buyer has a registered address outside the US.
Shipping to a buyer if they are using a US address costs no more than any other US buyer except for the additional 1.65% fee.
If the buyer paid then you ship. Simple.

If your listing stated you only ship to US, then you can cancel the transaction using problem with buyer's address, as that would be the issue. There would be no penalty for you, but you'd lose your sale. If you complete the transaction, you will have slightly higher fees due to shipping to China and for the currency exchange. There is no way around that. Best of luck to you....

I never sell outside the United States because when you sell in other countries there are certain laws and taxes that we are unfamiliar with. Delivery also takes a lot longer. The person in China should not have bid on your item since if says on your webpage that you only ship in the US. Ask the person in China if they have a US address that you could ship it to, possibly a friend or relative. If there is no US address then you should cancel the sale and relist.

Is the buyer using a US address?

The buyer could be using a freight forwarder located in the US so you would only be shipping their.
The only difference is you'll be charged the International fee, which isn't that much.

Thanks for replying. I dont know, as they have not paid yet. Someone else messaged that they could be using a freight forwarder with a US address.

"I dont want to net less on the sale because of this. Are there ways to assure I still net the full selling price?"
Nope. Not on this sale.
For future sales, you may want to update your list of countries to which you will NOT ship.

A buyer that is registered outside the US and has their item shipped to a US address doesn't always mean they are using a freight forwarder. I had a buyer registered in Canada buy from me and had the order shipped in care of someone in Pennsylvania.

You can cancel as problem with buyers address if they haven't paid.
I was under the impression the buyer paid. Your OP wasn't clear on that.

If the buyer had paid that would mean that they had a US address so there would be no reason to cancel. They would simply send it to the US address.
If the buyer did not have a US address they would not be able to pay unless the seller sent them an invoice with the shipping cost.

The buyer can only pay right now if they have a US address so you might want to send a message asking if they do want it shipped to the US. If they want to use an address in China and you are willing to ship there, you can send them an invoice with the correct shipping cost. Note that usps first class does not have delivery confirmation in China so you probably won't want to use first class.
If you don't want to ship there and they don't have a US address, you can cancel using problem with buyer's address. If you don't hear anything from the buyer and they haven't paid, you can cancel after 96 hours using the reason that buyer didn't pay.

Perhaps the buyer in China is using a US-based freight forwarder. It's not unheard of.
