Shipping on a listing with multiple quantities

I am selling items that have a quantity of 8. When someone purchases them, the shipping only charges them to send out all 8 in only one box. I can't fit all 8 of the item into one box! I need eBay to charge the amount of shipping for the quantity of 8 and then let me combine the items so I can refund the shipping amount not used. Otherwise, I am needing to ask the buyer for more money for shipping. That isn't right. What do I have setup wrong in my listing?

So if I understand, you have 8 but you are selling them one at time right?

Open the listing and click on "revise listing". Scroll down about 2/3 to 3/4 and look for a line that says "sell as a lot". See if that box is checked. If it is uncheck it because that is your problem.

OR do you have it set to calculate the shipping or do you have it as a flat rate to ship?

When you have a multiple quantity listing, you can specify X amount for one, and Y amount for each additional item.
