First time selling, I sold an item that ebay said to ship by todays date, I have purchased a label today however was unable to ship it today due to some unforeseen circumstances. Will I be penalized for shipping it one day late, if so what are the penalties?

If you are going to be successful at anything, be punctual. As you are a new seller, that isn’t getting off to a good start by not shipping promptly. I always ship within 1 day because I know how people, myself included, want their stuff. What the ramifications are by not shipping on time..you will get a “ding” on your account. I would gently suggest it ask yourself if you really want to do this or not.
I will say that was a nice sale, and you should have gotten it to the post office. First sale $125
It just isn’t about making the sale, it is the whole transaction .

And if you haven't sold anything in a month you are considered a new seller...won't receive these funds from the sale for 30+ days....and eBay fees might have to be paid before your funds are released. Just wanted you to know in case you might not have known.

You're fine. I've purchased quite a few items from sellers who print a label but don't actually mail it until the next day. But if want happy buyers always try to ship the next day.

Maybe, maybe not @sarab5120 .
You bought the label today which means "tracking uploaded on time" is satisfied.
If it gets a tracking scan at any point along the way then "and validated" is satisfied.
That leaves "late shipment rate". eBay generally shows buyers a delivery estimate window. If the item arrives within that window then you won't be hit with late shipping.
You can track your performance here - take note many of those stats update on a delay by a few days. https://sellerstandards.ebay.com/dashboard?region=US

According to the listing, you sold this item on November 21, 2023.
So you will be shipping late by more like a week.
Did you misunderstood something about the timing of shipping?
What was the last estimated delivery date as seen in the listing?

Listing has 3 business day handling time. Thursday was a holiday and doesn't count. Today is the 3rd business day. If the seller ships tomorrow, they will be late by 1 day, not 1 week @soh.maryl .

The listing states that the seller has 3-day handling. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, those 3 business days are Wednesday November 22, Friday November 24, and today Monday November 27. As noted in another post, currently the item is technically late because the seller didn't get a scan within their stated handling time BUT that doesn't count against them if the package is delivered within the estimated delivery date. As the policy page states,
"With tracking, we'll count an item as late when:

Thank you for that clarification.

I've never had the situation where I was able to print the label and then not get it out that day or the next day. On a rare occasion where I could get to the label within one day, I'd print and ship priority to still get it there in time at my cost.
And to be honest, after 25 years of selling, I have always strived to be prompt just as a business practice and never worried about dings or eBay account hits, so I'm not even sure how they have or have not ever affected me. I still remember invoicing buyers, waiting for a check in the mail, cashing it, make sure it clears, then ship...a far cry from 1 shipping, lol

@freebeer-records wrote:wow you sound really insufferable. one day late is not the end of the world, they are just starting out and learning, it is not a moral failing, and you are not better than them. i hope this helps!
I don't think your post will help at all seeing this thread is over a year old.

This topic ended over a year ago.
@frugalmarketplace is not insufferable. She is entirely correct. If not getting a scan within their handling time also results in the package arriving one day late then that could result in a defect. Defects can be the downfall of a new seller.
