What is going on with sellers charging so much for shipping a top or a pair of jeans?
I find a top or a pair of women's jeans, click on it because the price is right..but the shipping is so outrageous..$10.95 to ship a top or how about the jeans..and some sellers are selling women's jeans fo .99 but the shipping is $10+!! I don't know if I've been sleeping or what..but it's hard to buy when shipping is not right. And I do ship things so I do know what it cost and I'm not talking about the boxes you can buy from Usps for one price, I'm talking about the lg plastic shipping envelopes or the lg brown bubble rap envelopes..and charging a steep price! Are they making their own prices and charging us for it? It's wrong just wrong! Free shipping is the best way for customers

You do know that with FREE shipping, shipping isn't really free and you would be paying the same TOTAL COST right? Those 99cent jeans + $10 shipping would be $11 with free shipping. As a seller you should also know that "shipping" is not just the cost of postage.

I only buy...and honestly, I don't see anything wrong with those shipping amounts..I shop TOTAL price...If I like it, I buy it..
Seller charges 1.00 dollar for a VS top and adds 19 dollar shipping
OR
Seller charges 20.00 dollars for same top and free shipping..
Same thing to me!

Not all sellers will use the poly mailers.
Some may pack in an actual box for better protection.
Just a thought.

Item cost + shipping & handling
= Total price for you to receive that item.

1. We sell jeans and they weigh about 1.5 lbs plus or minus a few oz. How much do you think the shipping cost and packaging cost should be?
2. In reality there is no such thing as free shipping, the seller's cost of shipping along with all their other selling cost/fees and their profit margin is buried in the price of the item unless they operate as an ONFPO (Obviously Not For Profit Organization)
3. Yes shipping costs have been going up -every year USPS, UPS & FedEx has increased price and/or reduced on lien purchase discounts.

I'll agree that these sellers are idiots and could use better cheaper methods to increase their sells but it's really none of my business and makes my listings look better in comparison, if you don't like the total price of the item don't buy it that is your right but you cannot tell others how to structure their pricing sorry.

There you go.
Problem solved.
Just resist the temptation to buy if you feel shipping is not right.

Your discontent should be with the postal services increasing rates each year. It's getting harder and harder for sellers to offer fantastic shipping rates along with items they sell. Shipping is never ever free in reality. Amazon prime charges for this perk per every year and paying 100 dollars a year with zillions of buyers gives Amazon a definate edge, but you are paying for it if you use it. It's all marketing blah blah in the end.

Amazon prime "free" shipping is aan illusion of free shipping that you make up in your head when you buy something and it says. whoo hoo free. Then you remeber you paid for it already. Great Paychological mind bender.

Yes, I meant Pay chological. LOL.

It's really simple. If you don't like the shipping price, don't buy it. You do realize you can serach by price with the shipping inlcuded, right?

Amazon is losing a ton of money on their Prime free shipping.
It isn't a sustainable business model.

sellers can charge whatever they want for shipping. when you buy from ebay, you are trying to find items at the lowest possible price. if you cant find it here, try amazon and other retailers. if you dont like the price, then try shopping at the store. Sellers are here to make money, not give away their items for free just to please buyers. remember, sellers have to pay fees on top of shipping if they offer free shipping.

$10.65 is the USPS published Priority Retail Rate for 2 lbs going to Zone 6
$10.35 is likely 2 lbs Priority to Zone 5 with 50 cents handling.
$9.46 is the Parcel Select rate for 2 lbs to Zone 6
$6.70 is the 1 lb rate to Zones 1&2 (that seller probably lives fairly close)
These are actually based on USPS rates. Shipping isn't outrageous on eBay. The price is the price charged by USPS.
Shipping envelopes compared to a box may not have the impact you think either. A 1 lb 2 oz envelope is charged the same rate as a 1 lb 12 oz box.
Maybe, just maybe, they can really squish the item into a Padded Flat Rate Envelope for $7.25, but that's not a way a professional should ship. And it can difficult to open without damaging the item.
I'm more than happy to offer Free Shipping if that's really what my customers want. A 4 lb item going coast to coast is $20.05. I'll add it to my item price. The buyer who lives 100 miles away who might've only been charged $8.50 based on weight/distance should be okay with that. (That's a bonus $12 in my pocket!!)
