When we put a sports card on at auction and offer EBay envelope for it, if it goes over the $20 threshold the  shipping that shows has the EBay envelope as selected by buyer but is dimmed out and EBay has moved it to media mail. The price charged is for that which can't be used for a card of course. Yet the charge to the buyer is still charged at the envelope price.

My question - is there any way to have the proper shipping charged to the buyer???

Thank you for any answers.

The dollar limit for the eBay Standard Envelope is $20.00.

Any card(s) over $20.00 will have to be shipped as USPS First Class Package, unless the weight exceeds 13 ounces -- then it needs to be shipped as USPS Priority.

And trading cards do NOT qualify for USPS Media -- that's an option that eBay still needs to eliminate.

If you expect the item will go over $20 then you'll need to change your shipping to onky First class tracking when you set up the auction.

If you only thought it was going sell for $10 and it does happen to sell for $20 then just be glad about that extra $10 (minus the First Class Tracking price) you made and know that they wouldn't have bid as high if they were being charged more for shipping.

The weight limit for First Class packages is 15.99 ounces if you're purchasing postage online.

Unfortunately, there's no way to set up the shipping so that it automatically switches over to First Class package when the bidding goes over $20. If you expect a card to go over that amount, you have to set the listing up with First Class package in the beginning.

This is from the USPS :

  •
  • "The maximum weight for First-Class Mail packages is 13 ounces. A package exceeding 13 ounces is classified as a Priority Mail item."

I wasn't sure if the OP qualified for the 15.99 weight.

That quote is referring to retail postage.  Any online postage provider (eBay, PayPal, stamps.com, etc.) will have a weight limit of 15.99 ounces.

Yes, I am aware of that.

However, I was not sure whether or not the OP was purchasing postage through eBay, or at the post office.  So I quoted retail, just to be safe, even though the OP had mentioned purchasing the eBay Standard Envelope -- which, of course, can only be purchased through eBay.

But a few eBay sellers still persist in purchasing their postage at the post office -- even though most of the time it will simply be cheaper to purchase it through eBay.

If you buy postage online, first class is good up to 15.9 ounces.

That is for buying postage at the post office.  Everyone who prints online qualifies for the 15.9 ounce weight limit.
