hello, I recently sold an item , I paid the shipping charge directly to usps, eBay also charged the buyer and collected a shipping fee from the buyer .so my question ,is it normal for eBay to charge the buyer for shipping even though the seller paid for shipping? So I (the seller) and the buyer both paid for shipping, eBay collected a shipping fee even though I paid the shipping…plus charged me 12.9% of the shipping fee, doesn’t seem right?

@jesseredlands The Buyer pays for shipping and you use that money to purchase the label. YOU as the Seller are responsible to ship the item.
eBay charges a fee on the total of the item and the paid shipping by the Buyer. If you use the Calculated shipping setting on your listings then Buyers see exactly what they will pay for shipping. If you print your labels through eBay you get a discount on First Class and Priority Mail. If you buy your labels at the post office you do NOT get the discount PLUS you have to manually add the tracking number to the Sold file so the package can be tracked AND that you get your carrier Acceptance scan within your Handling time to avoid a late shipping defect. When you print labels through eBay the tracking number is automatically loaded on to the Sold file.

Any shipping charged and paid by a buyer is included in the payout money you receive minus all fees. So ebay collects the money, gives it to you and you buy the label.

Yes, that's normal. The money that the buyer pays for shipping goes into the seller's account. Then the seller uses that money to pay the carrier for shipping.
eBay final value fees are based on the buyer's total payment, including item price,, shipping and handling, and sales tax (if any). For sellers who don't have a store subscription, the rate is 12.9% is most categories.

The only sold listing showing up under your name shows that a shipping fee was to be charged/buyer paid for .
The only way you don't get credit for shipping included in your payout is when your listing states that shipping is Free.

It's like I ask you to run to the post office for me to send something out. I give you the money for the postage.. you pay that same money at the post office. The buyer paid you to cover the money you pay for the postage.
Think of the 13% Ebay collects as the processing fees for issuing the USPS label... like you say "Dude, can you add a $1.50 for the gas it will take me to get to the post office for you?" That's how I think of it at least

15 years selling and you didn't understand how shipping fee gets paid by the customer to you, then you use that money to pay for the label.
The buyer being charged for shipping is how you listed it. That's not an ebay issue, that's a you issue.

OP has hundreds of feedback as a buyer, but only 37 feedback as a seller. All of it is over a year old, and a few of the most recent feedback are from "unregistered" buyers, which implies that it's really old. So perhaps this member hasn't sold anything in a really long time. Maybe even since before 2011, when eBay started charging FVF on shipping. In the olden days of eBay, sellers didn't have to specify a shipping cost, they would figure it out after the item was Sold, and send an invoice to the buyer.

it does not seem right because you are using fuzzy math
what fee did ebay take out for shipping besides the 12.9% fee ?
if you use USPS shipping and paid them then how did ebay dip into your shipping money twice
I coud be confused but you stated they took fees out twice for shipping
" eBay collected a shipping fee even though I paid the shipping…plus charged me 12.9% of the shipping fee, doesn’t seem right?"

So I paid usps for the shipping ($13.50) ,separately from any eBay transaction, then when the item sold eBay also collected 15.50 for shipping from the buyer on top of the price of the item.so eBay collected 15.50 for shipping that they didn’t pay for plus added that shipping charge to the total that eBay takes their 12.9% from.so to summarize I sold my item for $480, ebay charged the buyer $535,eBay handled the money part of the transaction.my point is I paid the shipping to usps but eBay charged the buyer for shipping and added that to the total he paid even though I paid the shipping fee separately. I (the seller) and the buyer both paid shipping. Doesn’t seem right to me?thanks for the reply.

Thanks, I haven’t sold anything on eBay in many years, and like you said everything has changed since the last time I sold anything, I just thought it was strange both the buyer and seller paid for shipping,a lesson for me,thanks for not bashing my ignorance 🤙

Open your mind a bit... it is right. Your buyer paid $480 (item) + $13.36 (UPS Ground) + sales tax... so, $535.00, if you say so.
You'll be charged FVFs on all (of the $535), plus a $.30 transaction fee. From that, you'll take a bit and pay UPS for the label and keep the rest. It's all good. (I mean, it's all math... but it's all good.) Hang in there...

Well I haven’t sold anything in several years, except a car that was picked up in person.apparently I shouldn’t have paid for the shipping but I couldn’t print the label unless I paid, thanks for your friendly advice .just thought it was strange that both the buyer and seller paid shipping.

eBay collected shipping from the buyer and kept that money.
^^^ Here's where you're confused... eBay will include the money the buyer paid you for shipping in your Payout.
