Buyer purchased an item 2/15. I printed the Priority label that evening and informed him that there would be a slight delay in shipping due to the postal holiday yesterday.
He said no worries and asked if I could ship so that it arrived on Saturday 2/22 or Monday 2/24.
Since it's Priority I stated that if I waited to drop it off on Thursday it would probably be received on either of those days.
My question is if I will be hit by any kind of defect for this and if so, can I appeal and show them the message from the buyer? Estimated delivery date is within that time 2/20 - 2/25 so not worried about any INR claims.

If the buyer paid on Saturday and you drop it off on Thursday, that's 4 business days. If your handling time is 3 days or less, then this will affect your late shipment rate if the delivery is after the latest estimated delivery date. As eBay explains: "With tracking, we'll count an item as late when:

There is a separate on-time shipping related to Top Rated Seller status. That just requires uploading your label within your handling time and then getting ANY scan (just to prove that the tracking number is real). Your proposed strategy would meet that requirement.

If it's the watch your listing says you ship within 1 business day. Why are you waiting until Thursday?

The listing says you usually ship in one day, so waiting until Thursday, will earn you a defect and probably won't be able to appeal it.

I'm not aiming for Top Rated status so maybe it isn't that big a deal after all.

I'd rather the watch arrive when the person is home rather than it sitting in his mailbox when he's not.
I guess the other option is to cancel the priority label, buy a ground label and ship now. I offer free shipping either way so could save a few dollars that way.

Buyer can have their mail held at their post office.
I've had items take 8 days to arrive when shipped next state over so shipping Thursday hoping for Saturday or Monday delivery seems it may not happen

Yeah that's true. The post office is not nearly as reliable as it was in the past...even Priority

No eBay won't remove defect for you failing to mail within your handling time. And with your small amount of sales a defect can affect your account more than someone with lots of feedback.

I'd ship within your handling time.
