Shipping calculator doesn't match label price

Just ran into a situation that caused me to lose money on a sale. The shipping calculator showed shipping to my buyer's address for First Class to be $1.95, but when I printed the label, it cost me $3.67.

Anyone else getting messed up by this? Did the postal rates change after I listed the item? Why isn't the calculator updated if that is the case?

Shipping calculator doesn't match label price

Found out I have First class-large envelope as the packaging for the listing, but for some reason when I go to print the label, it automatically changes it to First class-package and that is why it is charging me more for the shipping than the customer paid. There is no option to change the packaging type once I am in the label printing area. As a workaround, I can print the label from the USPS website separately.

I scheduled a call with Ebay and the rep said the customer chose First class-package when they checked out, but it still charged them the large envelope price. That doesn't make sense because I only offered one First Class option set to Large Envelope and one Priority Mail option. They can only choose what is offered in the ad by the seller.

In my opinion, it looks like a technical issue with the label printing. I hope they get it fixed soon.

Customer service is wrong.

The issue is you can't ship first class envelope with eBay.  It's a non tracked service while you can offer it to the buyer through eBay you can't print the label.  You also need to be sure you items qualify for this service if they are too thick or not flexible it needs to go the package rate.

I'm guessing you are talking about the book led light and honestly I think packaged in an envelope that would be too thick and not flexible. That probably should have shipped the package rate.  You need to choose package when listing these items to get the correct shipping cost to the buyer

There's no need to talk to an eBay rep. As noted in the other post, they gave you bad information anyway.  Buyers can't choose an option that you didn't offer. What you offered was shipping as a Large envelope, so that's what they chose and paid for.  But eBay doesn't sell postage for large envelopes (which the USPS calls "flats") so you would have to ship it at the PO or just put stamps on it.

As another post observed, USPS has strict requirements for what can be mailed as a flat.  The envelope must be flexible, not over 3/4 inch thick, and literally flat which USPS defines as a variation in thickness of not more than 1/4 inch. Most merchandise doesn't meet those criteria.

This is not a technical issue with label printing. The fix for this situation is for you to choose "package/thick envelope" when you set up your listing, in the "Package type" list of options, so the buyer pays the correct amount of postage .
