I have a post office 1 mile from me and for years been dropping there.. Because of the new postmaster general and his changes to the PO, I can no longer drop there or they will be returned to me, I have to drop off my packages 5.6 miles away.. I can use that PO if I purchase a label over the counter but I like the shipping discounts I get doing them online...
Shipping address:... ( I get this part )

If you look closely at the shipping label prep form, you will see the option to change the "Ship from" ZIP Code without changing you return address. This is what your PM wants.

Hopefully I understand this right.
Your ship from address should be the same as your return address. That is the address the PO will use to return your package if the item is undeliverable or refused. I am not sure why they would refuse your package because of the ship from address as long as it is nearby where you are dropping it off.
I sometimes drop off my USPS packages in a neighboring town that I work at while still using my home address. I verified if that was ok and they didn't seem too concerned. Granted some PO workers are more uptight than others. If anything call the USPS 1-800 number to get clarification and file any relevant complaints.

What the postmaster at the location said was, my packages are in 30504 zip code and I drop them off at a 30566 code and the even though the 30504 people are doing the work, the 30566 people are getting the credit... She said it is a new policy brought down by the new postmaster general and is phasing it's way to ALL locations ... I am at a loss... These people at the PO have known me for years but now they can not accept my packages... From what I have read, they are trying to find PO's that are not pulling there weight and shutting them down..
I am dumbfounded by all this but from my research this morning, it looks like it will eventually be this way at all PO's ..
But they did say, if I changed my zip code to theirs, then they would accept it.. Who knows.. lol .. It's ridiculous

That sounds ridiculous. I guess only time will tell. I have always dropped my packages off in the wrong area. Basically I drop my stuff off wherever I please. If USPS doesn't want the money too bad I guess?
