Shipping a box in a envelope.

It happens to me all the time. I know they are trying to save money, but really, shipping a box in a envelope?  I'm not even talking about a padded envelope.  I'm talking about a manila envelope. The box inside almost always arrives totally crushed.  Usually never fragile items, but still it would be nice to receive a box that's not totally crushed.   What ever happened to comon sense?

what did i miss here? if the item was in a box and an envelope BUT still was crushed...what else would you think wouldn't have been crushed?

Perhaps a box strong enough to withstand being easily crushed?  Not all boxes are meant for shipping.  If the container a product comes in is not strong enough to withstand normal handling by a carrier, then the container should be shipped in a box that is strong enough.

Putting a weak container into a weaker envelope does not serve as protection.

Same here! If a product box is not strong enough, I put it in a sturdy box. Usually I take a piece of cardboard and make a box just big enough to go around it for protection. If the box I put it in is small I put it in a padded envelope and if it's big enough for a label, it ships in the box I made or had on hand. The item and its container matter to some people - me included. I always pack like it matters.

Some buyers care about shipping cost doubling or tripling because of a box that is going straight into the recycle bin.

I sometimes list things without the original box, or with the box flattened/folded if it makes the difference between 3# zoned PM and a PFRE, or FCP and PM. (that information is of course in the listing, usually with a photo of the packed item and flattened box)
