Shipping USPS Regional Rate Box C

USPS has discontinued the regional C box. However I have some of the boxes.

Am I allowed to use this box and use regular non-flat rate priority calculations?

It seems silly to send boxes to a landfill when it can be used.

Re: Shipping USPS Regional Rate Box C

Yes, you can use the discontinued Reg C box and pay the weight-based zoned price. (Regional rate boxes have never been flat rate.) Keep in mind that the box volume exceeds 1 cubic foot so dimensional weight applies to Zones 5-9.

You also can use pieces of a Reg C box to reinforce other boxes or envelopes. Cut apart, the flaps are simply scrap cardboard, after all! Lining a box with cardboard -- especially on the top and bottom -- can be equivalent to "double-boxing."

Re: Shipping USPS Regional Rate Box C

Yes, Regional Rate Box C can still be used, but since the USPS discontinued the Box C rate, shipments using the box are priced like any other non-flat-rate PM box.

@duchess-at-speakeasy and @flyerfandan999

Thank you both. After calculating my 5-lb. package, it turned out that the LFRB ended up cheaper.

But it's good to know for the future that I can use the C boxes. I'll just use them for shipments in zones 1-2!

You don't have to limit them quite that much.  They'll ship at the regular weight-based rate for Zones 1 - 4.  Due to the dimensional weight for Zones 5 - 9, they will ship at the 12-pound rate to those Zones (unless of course the actual weight is greter).
