Just don't make a big deal about it. Walk in, drop it off at an empty booth and leave. If you ask you run the risk of getting a petty bureaucrat that likes to throw their weight around.

I've never had a problem with UPS or USPS dropping off packages after the label date unless there was some kind of rate change going into effect in the interim. You should be fine with it.

I've been in the same situation and got this from PirateShip.com. The US Postal Service is generally okay with your being a day or two late in using your shipping label. UPS is a tad more lenient and will allow up to three days for you to use your shipping label.
The thing that bugs me is that the post office closes at 5pm and eBay doesn't take that into account in its shipping label purchasing system. My local post office closed at 5pm and I was getting a head start on shipping for tomorrow, yet the bot gives a shipping date of today unless I change it manually to tomorrow's date.
