Shipping Changes

I have seen an increase in my shipping expenses. I had it set to calculated and then to reduce that quantity by 1 ounce. I also had a $.20 per order fee. This worked for a very long time - years and it was fair. My items are generally light weight (3 ounces) and I hated to see buyers pay so much for shipping with combined items. But then something changed and I found myself paying part of the shipping cost. Does anybody know what? I was told to remove the 1 ounce subtraction and that really increased prices for buyers. In fact, I got a complaint. I've not had complaints on shipping before.

Who are you all using to print labels? Are some of you printing them from paypal or another service?  I am not sure we are getting the best price for shipping First Class packages anymore.

Thanks,

Kerry

All online postage sellers charge the same prices for First Class packages.  For packages up to 4 ounces, the cost is $2.74 -$3.18 depending on distance.

What changed are the postal rate increases that went into effect on January 26 of this year. !st class rates went up an average of 2.2% they, say but a lot of weights and distances increased more. As a buyer of small items in the $20-30 price range, these increases have stopped me from buying many items on eBay. I now buy a lot more on AMZ because of the free shipping I get with Prime.  Unfortunately, postage increase are here to stay.

There is more to it I think. Today, one lady paid over $12 for a combined purchase that cost me $3.39. Something is not working correctly. All of her items went out in one package. When future buyers want to consider a purchase, they will check out shipping costs. $12 for shipping for 7 ounces is inaccurate. That is what happened to me today. As sellers, we can lose buyers because of this - in fact, I am sure we will. Shipping prices have been "squirrely" for the last couple of weeks. Of course, I can't make a phone call - system is down. And, what is it with that? I have been unable to phone Ebay as well. Sometimes, I can request a call back in and 1 or 2 hours. Maybe, I will hear back, maybe I won't. I suspect there is a relationship between Ebay and China. I have seen that coming for the last couple of years. Also their customer service response is coming in from around the globe - not the US - could be the Phillipines, could be elsewhere.  Let's get this escalated. Thanks.

Ebay is having a technical problem with combined shipping for multiple item orders. It is not "us," its them. This is a known problem and has been reported. They are not combining weights if you have set-up your shipping preferences as combined. So, watch your sales - if they are significantly lower than expected or the shipping rates seem significantly higher than they should be, contact Customer Service. This is a known problem. It is also consistently inconsistent. In other words, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It is best to contact them before you ship or refund so that they can get screen shots to technical support.
