Send invoice USPS cost way too high.

I'm trying to send an invoice to the buyer and I want to pay for shipping because he bought 2 items. Total weight is under 3 oz. Package size is 7" x 5". When I click Send Invoice the shipping is $24.40. It should be around $9. I tried clicking on the shipping calculator but when I was done it still showed $24.40. How to I resolve this? My zip code is 01824 and buyer's zip code is 45420-3835.

7" x 5" x what?

Are these the two geocoins that sold yesterday?

When I look at the Ghost one, it tells me shipping is $19.50 to me by first class. The boots say $4.50.

It seems to me the ghost one has the wrong dimensions or weight listed.

Yes, these are the 2 geocoins. I must have messed up the Ghost one when I set it up. Is that something I can fix before I send you the invoice?

The postage cost is probably inflated due to a data error, such as entering one or more of the dimensions wrong. Your actual postage cost for a 3-ounce package is going to be under $4, so adjust the invoice so that's what the buyer is charged.

The shipping calculator for the ghost item is charging the total retail postage cost for a First Class package up to 4 ounces, PLUS the recently introduced $15 surcharge that's applied to package with a length over 30 inches or a volume over 2 cubic feet.

Change the .25" to 1" and see what happens. Make sure you look at the shipping to make sure it in fact says first class and is not defaulting to some other shipping method like flat rate box.

padded envelopes are fine but they need to be at least 3/4 inches thick in order to be a package

under 3/4 is considered a flat and they do not get tracking I think

many shippers ball up a piece of paper to increase the thickness or use a single packing noodle

There is no minimum thickness for a package.

In order to be mailed as a flat, a piece must be not over 3/4 inch thick, flexible, and of even thickness (which the USPS defines as a variation in thickness mot more than 1/4 inch). So the OP's envelope is a package, not a flat, if it's rigid even if it's under 3/4 inch thick.

I want me (the seller) to pay for shipping so I want to give the buyer the discount of the shipping cost. I don't know how to adjust the invoice to fix the dimension issue (if that's what I did). I'm tempted to just suck it up and pay the $24.40 and consider it a loss due to my error.

Thank you. I tried those things but it didn't help with the $24.40 shipping cost.

You don't have to change the dimensions on the invoice, just change the shipping cost to zero.

There is no way that eBay is going to charge you $24.50 for that shipping label.

So there are two pieces to this puzzle. As others suggested for the invoice part simply change the cost to what you think it will actually cost to ship the package first class $3-$4 and send the invoice. After the buyer pays when you go to actually create the label you should be able to make the adjustments to actually purchase a first class label at around the $3-$4 cost. If not and there is a "glitch" in eBay you can always use Pirate Ship to create the label, their discounts are about the same as what you get through eBay, and then upload the tracking number from Pirate Ship into the eBay order.

Yes, the postage cost for a First Class package will be the same wherever you purchase it online, including Pirateship and PayPal at www.PayPal.com/shipnow .

Thanks, I want to pay for shipping for these items so I put the $24.40 as a discount and sent the invoice. Once the buyer pays I'll try your suggestion, or use Pirate Ship if I need to. Thank you!

this is the info I found for packages

Is a padded envelope considered a package?
Bubble Mailers and Envelopes are Considered Packages When They're 3/4 Inches Thick or More. USPS will only accept bubble mailers as packages if their total thickness is 3/4 of an inch or more. This applies not when the bubble mailer is empty, but when the contents of your shipment are inside.

A mailpiece must be flat-size or larger, if rigid, or over 3/4" thick to be classified and priced as a package (parcel). For padded bags (e.g., ReadyPost ® “cushion mailer”), when the thickness is 3/4" or less and the item is flat-size and somewhat flexible, the item should be classified and priced as a large envelope.
