Hi!
I'm a fairly new seller to eBay. I have a MacBook Pro that I've been trying to sell, so I auctioned it. I received several offers for it outside of eBay that I could tell were scams, and I ignored them. But the person I sold it to has an eBay account that was created just 8 days ago in Chile. He sent me the funds through PayPal (I verified, they're there and being held until the transaction is complete), and put an address to a different person in Florida who will receive it. He says this person is a friend and he'll pick it up in a few weeks. He also confirmed everything, that he was from Chile and that yes, the shipping address was meant to be in Florida (I don't ship internationally). The shipping address on PayPal is consistent with one he messaged me about, so that's where I'll send it, with priority mail and signature confirmation. I'll keep all shipping documentation on hand and take pictures of the package for proof. I just want to confirm that I shouldn't cancel this order for suspicion of a scam and leave it to PayPal to take my side should a "broken item" or "unreceived item" request come through to try to scam me. Thank you in advance for any help!

"Once the item is received at the shipping company address you aren't liable for the item, even if the buyer doesn't receive the item from the company."
A laptop sent to reshipping company will show a tracking number of delivery. Now what happens if an employee of that reshipping company steals it and says the box was empty? Or that employee drops it during repacking process and then shoves it back in the box broken? Or if the employee improperly repacks it?
Having worked for a large wholesaler I've caught a employee stealing items from our picking line. Rather easy to do in such a fast paced environment. I've also seen lazy packing jobs that should have got employees fired on the spot.
PayPal Seller protection does cover claims filed directly through an eBay account.
And of course the buyer can file a claim through their credit card company which trumps both eBay & PayPal. They are gong to rubber stamp the claim so fast your head will spin.
Any Google search will show your thousands of horror stories.
Anything goes wrong, regardless of any claims that may go through, and the buyer is going to blame you and leave feedback accordingly. Having only one damaged package in over 20 years selling online, I don't want companies repacking my items.

Yes, but what is stopping a foreigner getting a U.S. PayPal account?
They can for instance obtain a U.S. bank account by opening an account at a international bank operating in their country that has one or branches in the U.S.
A s.s., which a U.S. citizens would have, is not required by law to obtain a bank account.
They can use a VPN or proxy to mask their location.
They can use the shipping address of U.S. based reshipping company.
