To clarify: This is a INAD case on a bad EMEI Phone.
- Seller didn’t formally respond to the return request so I had to escalate to Ebay.
- Ebay then send me a message saying that the case was in my favor and they would ask the seller to send a return label. They said they would put the case on Hold for 5 days and that if he did not send me the funds or shipping label, I would win the case by default. The also said that they would contact me after the 5 days are up.
- 3 days later today, the seller send me a message telling me that he accepted my request and asking for PayPal to send me the shipping cost for return.
The problem is that he hasn’t answered directly to the Ebay case, he just send me a message through Ebay messages. How do I know that he chose one of the options that Ebay told him ? I don’t want this to be unofficial. Also, I don’t have a PayPal account, I payed with a credit card.
I thought Ebay was supposed to send me an email with the sellers response ?
How do I proceed ? Do I wait 5 days so that Ebay tells me the status of the case ? They said he had 5 days to give the shipping label or funds for the return or the case would close in my favor. But I feel like Ebay would give me an update or a “green light” on the return ? 🤔
Some are saying that he has no choice because I’m international, that’s **bleep** because I’m using a US Zip Code. I just don’t want to receive the funds or the label to return the item, Just so that Ebay wasn’t aware of it all and the case turns null.
Also, the seller has been here since 2012, so he’s not new.
Is the seller trying to scam me or what ?
Thanks in advance.

Tell them to message through the case, they are trying to loophole you.
If the seller makes an effort ebay can and sometimes will close a case in their favor.
When you can escalate, do so.

Hi @hectolui_0, when a seller is responsible for return shipping costs and an eBay label is not an option (usually due to the location of either the buyer or seller, or the dimensions/weight of the item), a seller is instructed to either purchase a label and upload it to the case or send the funds to the buyer through PayPal and provide the transaction ID. Either of these options are acceptable for the seller and supported by eBay - in many situations, a pre-paid label cannot be purchased for the return (such as for international returns), so the fallback is to send funds in PayPal. If a buyer is unable to access these funds, receive funds through PayPal, or create a PayPal account for some reason, they would then become responsible for the cost of the label.
While you may not have a registered PayPal account, it does sound like a guest account was created for you when you checked out using the information you have on file with eBay (email, address, phone number, etc.) and the credit card or debit card you paid with. You can finish registering that guest account using the email address associated with your purchase or by contacting PayPal directly, where you can then link a bank account or debit card to withdraw the funds for the return shipping label.
Additionally, I do want to clarify for you and @robot-hands that any messages sent through eBay are visible to us and would appear in our internal view of the return details. In fact, there are many situations where the option to message your trading partner is not available, so communicating through eBay messages is the only option. This does not pose a risk or concern, as we can see this information easily.
I encourage you to work with your seller and upload return tracking as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Customer Service to go over the details more specifically.
