I initiated a SNAD return which was accepted by the buyer begrudgingly after wrestling with the process over many messages. Now I have been sent a shipping label, but it is just a piece of paper with the seller's address on it. It has no barcode, and is obviously not a paid shipping label the seller is required to provide for a defective item claim.
Now, Ebay just assumes because he has uploaded this "label" the return is ready and the next step is for me to send the item. What should I do? I am not shipping the item on my own dime and hoping the seller will reimburse me down the road. From what I understand, the process for that is largely just an honor system and people rarely ever receive their money back.
Do I just wait to escalate? Will ebay side with the buyer because they uploaded this pitiful excuse for a label?

That option to escalate will never appear. Your seller has stalled you, and eBay is waiting for a tracking number showing Delivered to the seller's return address. Nothing will happen until you send a private message with your 1. name, 2. zip code, and 3. email at Facebook or Twitter to ask eBay to look at the label.

I am not sure what to do but I know what not to do. Do not escalate anything, ebay gets involved, they most likely decide in seller's favor (as you say it show that the seller uploaded the label) and then you really have no recourse.
Call ebay, and explain the situation.

My kneejerk reaction is to use the label. The seller will have to pay postage due at his end.
But, with no tracking to show the item was actually returned, you may have problems with your refund.
I think I agree with @martin2001 ... it may be time to call eBay.

Contact eBay, and tell them that the seller is not accommodating a return shipping label ... the seller has to provide a shipping label that is trackable.

It appears you may have engaged with a very knowledgeable seller, if you utilize the label you received, you have no evidence of having returned the item for refund, & are paying for the return shipping.
Best to report the seller.

Contacted Ebay. The label is indeed invalid, they can't even process the label on their end. Now its as many five days stuck in limbo because a duplicitous little piece of garbage has stalled the process. Honestly this seems like a genuine loophole, five extra days to try to smoke out your buyer and hope they simply relent just by uploading some random invalid label. Honestly, the policy should simply be once a shipping label is proven to be invalid by Ebay a refund is automatically issued. I have no recourse now until either he uploads a valid label or ebay steps in on day 6 to provide one. Great system.
Just to reiterate, if this happens to you, DO NOT SEND YOUR ITEM. Even if Ebay tells you to, contact customer service and have them review the label.

good luck with E-Bay, I bough burners for my grill I pay $76.00 I returned them because they din't fit,I received my refund but E-Bay hit me with a $92.00 shipping charge for a label, so I'm $ 92.00 off for nothing, I called E-Bay the rep said is buyers remorse.
