Seller Sent My Item to Someone Else-Now I Don’t Want It..

Okay, so, I ordered something last week on the day it was released. It sold out at retail fast, so I had to turn to eBay to get mine. The prices here were multiple times the actual price, which I expected.

So today it arrives in the mail, and it is not the item I ordered. So I requested a return, and the seller tells me, “Oops, so sorry, I accidentally sent your order to someone, and sent you their order. If you send it back to me I will make it right after I receive your item back from them.”

The thing is, I don’t want that specific one now. Not only did I have to choose a seller I could seemingly trust to send the item to me in nice condition in the first place, now I have to trust that some random buyer will take care in keeping it nice in the meantime, AND shipping it back to the seller in the same ‘New’ condition?

This random buyer does not know that I had planned to keep this item as a collector, and never open it. Looking at this item, one might not think it could even be valued as a collectible. Even so, it’s just something I didn’t count on, that I just don’t like. I mean hypothetically, if this ordeal had been in the item description, I would purposefully have clicked away.

Well, normally I would have no issue letting someone know this, and getting exactly what I paid for (which I suppose no matter how hard this will be, I will have to do here anyways..). But now this item has significantly decreased in price on eBay. It is at maybe half of what I spent on this one. So I guess my question is, what if I tell the seller, “I don’t want this item because I wanted to collect it and at this price, I don’t like that it has been handled & shipped by another person.” Now that this has happened, even if my reason was I wanted a refund to buy one for cheaper, would the seller be able to deny me that? Maybe I’m just looking for a second opinion.

Thank you 🙏

Sorry, I’ve never had to return anything on eBay ever. I don’t know what the rules are for this particular issue, or if there are any rules..

Well, If I were the seller (this similar thing has only happened to me twice in 10+ years) I would be OK with whatever you decided as it was MY FAULT. I may or may not ask you to return the wrong item but I would ask if you still wanted the other item or if not I would immediately refund your money. I would just tell the seller that you found one elsewhere now and don't want theirs. Regardless of what you tell them if they are a good seller they would not complain a bit and take care of you on this. We all make mistakes.

Yes there are rules that a buyer needs to follow. I suggest you go up to help & contact and read the money back guarantee for this platform. It's to help you out. A buyer only has one opportunity to open a return case, you only get one chance, so you have to be very careful or you lose that window.

I read your post and understand why you no longer want the original item you purchased. I would suggest that you open an item not as described case for the item which was shipped to you. It is correct as that isn't the item you purchased, so you are telling the truth. Seller will have to send you a return label. Simply ship it back at seller's cost and you will be fully refunded. You will not have to re-purchase the original item at all. Just go on about your way and purchase it from someone else for a lesser amount. You will be fine as long as you follow this procedure. Best of luck to you....

@blonde_faith

Go to the resolution center below and select, the item doesn't match the description.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

Have A Great Day.

Simply open a return case item not as described if you already haven't done this.

Seller must send you a pre paid return label.

Send the item back and then message your seller to issue a refund.

You don't need to explain anything to anyone.

Try to forgive your seller for his mistake.

Job Done.

After you click "Return this item" on your Purchase History page @blonde_faith click SHOW MORE on the short list of reasons and select "Wrong item sent" from the full list:

Then submit the return request. If you don't get a refund or a prepaid return label, one will will be provided for you at no cost after 3 business days...after you come back and click Ask eBay to step in it. Just mail the return label within 10 business days, and you'll get your refund, no unwanted item.

Later, if the other unwanted item eventually arrives, write "Return to sender" on it and put it back in the mail. There's no problem, since you've already been refunded.
