From my buyer......I was emailed by buyer he was returning part of the sale and I gave a more than partial refund. I wanted this back.....
This is the message I got. It said didn't need to return the items so I added them to my gold fill processing acid,
You have accepted the partial refund for 15.8 g 14k 10k scrap gold lot, most wearable. Many have gemstones, and the seller has refunded you $180.00. It should be available in your PayPal account.
You don't need to return this item to the seller - you can keep the item. You can view details of this return on eBay.

Unfortunately when you offer a partial refund, the buyer keeps the items. You can't offer a partial refund in exchange for the return of the items. If you wanted the items back you needed to accept the return, and have the buyer return everything they received. You have no recourse now as the buyer cannot return the item.

oh oh, if you need the merchandise back, email the buyer and ask them to please be honest and to return what they don't want. Now if you want part of the 180 back, that might be harder to do. You can request X dollars. You can send them a paypal money request for whatever X dollars is. You need to email them first and tell them. I would stress that you need the merchandise/funds . Hopefully you don't lose everything in this transaction.
What really stinks about this too is that ebay made 10% in fee. Bummer.

Giving a partial refund means you are agreeing that the buyer will keep the item instead of returning for a full refund, and they are agreeing to that as well. It seems like you and your buyer didn't realize that, if they said they were sending something back.
Buyers aren't supposed to keep what they want and get money back for what they don't want, and send the unwanted items back to the seller.
