Seller Misrepresented Location

Seller's location is listed as Canada, and item listed is in CAD, so I ended up losing a good deal of money from the exchange rate (CAD to USD) and international shipping charges, plus the international transaction fee on my credit card, only to see upon arrival that the item was shipped from Buffalo, NY.

Googled the store name and they are in fact in the US, not Canada.

Is this allowed on ebay? Is there anything I can do to recoup the exchange rate and international shipping charges?

That, in combination with the seller misrepresenting the item as mint condition, when the item I received is considerably damaged and different than the photos.

That's disappointing. I would message the seller and give them a chance to resolve, but it they're not open to a resolution you can file a not as described claim.

What I'm not happy about is paying $20+ for "international" shipping for a used collectible item that was already in the US.

The label shows 1 oz. at $3.73. To me, it seems like a money-grab... charge $20 for international but only pay $3.73 to ship.

If I found the correct seller through your FB, then that seller is located in Canada. $3.73 might be the US portion of postage, but the seller probably paid shipping fees to get their packages from Canada to a US courier, then paid an additional fee to the courier to ship from the US for them. It's a common practice as I mentioned above.

Their listings are posted on the .com site in CAD which means you would pay an international fee for currency conversion.

Pet peeve: Buyers know before buying what the total cost will be and presumably decide whether the bottom line is within their budget. Then they jump to conclusions and accuse sellers of a "money grab."

@kate_lily - Keep in mind that the $20 shipping you paid is shipping AND HANDLING and

with gas prices nearing $5/gallon and the seller making trips to the US to save you shipping costs (and allowing you to buy something you didn't find elsewhere), shipping in a timely fashion and having the item delivered directly to your door without your having to leave home, isn't there a value to that?

Re: Seller Misrepresented Location

The seller is in the US. His business is in the US. It was all confirmed through his website, Google Street view, calling his phone number, USPS tracking, and business license search.

And you are 100% wrong. Shipping and Handling are two separate fields and two separate charges. You enter Package Details in one screen, and Handling Charges are on a separate screen which you have to select and enter the charges manually.

Padding shipping costs is a money grab and a violation of eBay policy. Only scammers charge $20+ for a 1 oz. First Class USPS shipping label that cost $3.73.

The fact that the item received looked nothing like the pictures posted confirms it was a scam.

Might be a sales tax because of item from N.Y.

The OP lives in Missouri, not New York. Why would there be New York sales tax on his/her purchase?

Re: Seller Misrepresented Location

Many Americans will not buy from outside of the US so it doesn't make sense that a seller would list Canada as their location if they were actually in the US so there has to be more to the story. I might have missed it but have you tried to contact the seller to ask why it was shipped from the US when the listing said that it was in Canada?  There might be an explanation or the seller might offer to combine the difference in shipping.

some folks are in Canada and such recive funds in Canadian: item can be shipped for in the us, as well;

The international fee goes with were the user is registered not where the item comes from or where it is shipped to.
