Hey guys!
I recently started posting items for sale & I trying to work up to a making it a true business (already have tax ID & all of that) - so I am starting off on a personal account, selling items my family either used once & in good condition or never even touched! LOL We also have a few things we bought just to sell. I posted several items, learned/realized a few things, panicked a few times, took down many items, & decided to basically start as close to scratch as possible!! My biggest issues seem to be with shipping! I always want to be fair as well as have an appealing #. However, this is not always easy! Until I have shipped a few items out & understand the system a little better, I can only go buy the estimates from the SP's. Anyway, my question (for now) is: When shipping, I was posting a flat shipping rate & adding in $.50- $1.00 for handling! Then, I realized, you can add in handling but the first time I saw it, "add handling cost" it says: "determined by initial service" ... What does this mean? I know WHAT it means BUT which options allow for adding handling costs? Will those options affect my overall shipping choices? If anyone can answer this, I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thank You!! Have an amazing day/night!! - AC

The eBay listing form allows you to add a handling cost if you choose calculated shipping when you set up the listing. If you are charging a flat price for shipping, then the handling fee is part of that flat price.
Shipping costs vary by distance with very few exceptions (such as USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes and Media Mail). Otherwise, charging a flat price for shipping will inevitably overcharge some buyers and/or undercharge others. Most experienced sellers set up their listings with calculated shipping that is based on the actual package weight and dimensions. Or they set a flat price which in turn has to be based on knowing the actual shipping cost to buyers both near and far.
Could you explain what "estimates from the SP's" means?
