Anybody had this issue. Buyer purchased item, received and a couple days later ask to return due to damage in shipping. I sent the buyer many requests for photos and explanation of damage received nothing. Requested EBay help to resolve explained that I could not get a response. They stepped in and sent message to buyer, I still heard nothing from the buyer then yesterday received a message from eBay that they had decided to give a full refund to the buyer. Never included me never received any photos of explanation of damage nothing just a note that this was there decision and they would take money from account and refund. Found it funny that I had no input and still have no idea if the items where damage, these were used items that I believe the customer just decided they didn't want.

Yes, when I first restarted selling last March. You can review your settings, preferences for returns and see if there is something there at allows ebay to just do the refund. I had to reset mine after this happened to me. I'm actually not sure it makes any difference though. I had a buyer complain that my listing was not acurately representing the item they purchased, but they also refused to return it, ebay automatically refunded them without me getting the item back. The photos upheld my listing details but too late, he had the item and his money back. Adding insult to injury he left erroneous negative feedback! A ebayer, and I quote, said just smile and "List on" The good things and good customers out weigh the bad... but it is annoying when the "bad eggs" win one!

That is what happens when you do not accept returns. If buyer gets something not as described they are issued a refund regardless of you not accepting returns. You just don't get the item back because by not acceptting returns ebay assumes you do not want the item back.

did you send it priority mail? then you can be reimbursed vua USPS. I have had this happen 2 times in the past but the buyers sent me photos that i uploaded to my USPS form. try cut and pasting your ebay email to help bolster your case. its worth a try.

I was told by eBay (within the last 6 weeks), if you (the seller) request photos of said item damage and the buyer refuses to comply, then the case is closed in seller's favor. According to the rep, it's a newly implemented policy in returns and I am sure one not publicized for sellers to take a proactive stand in returns. Furthermore, you can tell eBay (if the item was insured) that you require the buyer to show photos in order to process insurance claims (particularly with the USPS). I recently went through the same problem, but the buyer was good enough to provide photos of damage (and it occurred during shipping). By the time I had to refund buyer, I had already received a check from the USPS for the entire payment, to include the shipping I charged buyer. I was out $4 on return shipping, after the return of my paypal and eBay fees, but this is negligible compared to eating the refund and return shipping.

Thanx for the response, nothing offered from eBay. When request for return for damage came that's what I did requested photos, buyer sent nothing could not get a answer that's why I involved eBay. They never provided me with anything and gave a refund and now when I look at the return it seems to be marked as not as discribed. I think eBay is as bad as the buyer.

Hello Abdimommy- I read your recent post responding to "Returns for Buyers". I was intending to get back to selling after 2 years out and was reviewing and updating my templates for posting. I see (upon review) that returns policies have gotten worse for sellers like me. I sell collectable items, older, used, sometimes not at all "new" condition, sometimes heavy and awkward and relatively expensive to ship. So returns is an issue for me, especially when a frustrated buyer (for whatever reason) can simply damage the item themselves and claim "not as described", and I get screwed.
You describe what you were told by eBay, and it sounds like an improvement. If I have USPS insurance on an item, and a buyer is required to fulfill obligations to USPS insurance (which would include photos to me and a statement to them) prior to eBay issuing a refund, then I would be less concerned about eBay's money back guarantees.
Is there any evidence of the policy you described other than what you say you heard? Thanks in advance.

Lol...yes this would be an improvement. However I just talked with ebay about a similar issue and the rep just chuckled. The buyer is not required to do anything past opening the claim and mailing it back on sellers time if required.
