Looking to get feedback and answers on whether the approach is correct. Getting frustrated with selling on eBay. Mostly people know what they want, have researched the item you are selling, and end up happy with the item you send them. Unfortunately though, there are some that don’t seem to read the listing properly or do their homework before buying. Latest case in point is someone bought a keyboard case for an iPad 10” which was brand new boxed and flawless. I’m now in the habit of checking items before they go out to avoid problems which I did. However, they want to return the item despite me saying “no returns” because apparently the magnets aren’t strong enough. I’m a personal seller, not the manufacturer so my first thought was to direct them to the warranty that comes with it. I thought about it then decided I didn’t fancy getting negative feedback through no fault of my own. I just wish this person had read up on this particular item to ensure it fit the bill. Anyway. I accepted the return which is going to see me out of pocket for the postage to them and return postage. Unless they return the item damaged I’ll have to give a full refund which leaves me out of pocket which doesn’t seem fair?? If I were a business seller fair enough but what’s next? If I sell an old pair of shoes with “no returns” it’s meaningless because they can look and decide they don’t like the colour and say “not as described” and you’re screwed. It’s getting harder to sell stuff and it really puts you off. I had another a while ago where the person didn’t read the listing correctly as it said “compatible with and not compatible with quite clearly” yet they make a mistake and you have to pay for that mistake. Thoughts?

sadly if they return the item back damaged you will still be stuck with all the costs- no returns mean nothing on eBay. we all have buyers like described

I do "returns but buyer pays for shipping"...never had a return.

Yes, that works for so-called "remorse returns"; however, if you have a buyer who opens a item not as described case, you will be paying the return postage if you want the item back.
And I know that you, as an experienced seller, know that, but just in case there are new kids reading here, wanted to make sure they are aware of the MBG.

Thoughts are that you understand online returns and the pitfalls well. Same as selling AMZ and any other significant venues.
I am a fulltime seller that accepts free returns. The amount of returns and the cost of those returns are a insignificant amount over the course of a year. Returns are part of doing business for me.

Le's hope they do a "remorse return"....
