Returned item with eBay label - seller claiming they didn't get it even though it shows delivered

I bought an item awhile ago and it arrived in really poor condition (described as like new, but came very banged up/dented/used). I requested a return and the seller put up a fuss but eventually issued a label through eBay (RMA). I sent it back, the tracking showed delivered, and the seller didn't refund or reply so I had to ask eBay to step in. eBay issued the refund and closed the case.

A few weeks later the seller out of the blue messages me and says they never got the package and are filing a police report against me. What are the implications of this and is there anything I need to do to protect myself?

Thank you

Stop responding to the seller...nothing can be done...

Ditto what emerald said- there's nothing that can be done to you from the seller, so ignore.

Just tell the seller that they need to contact the carrier.

I would call customer service and report the seller, they are threatening you   Nothing they can do to you if tracking shows delivered. Sorry that is happening to you

First thing I would do is to collect up as many facts as possible!  That means find any an all correspondence with the seller, find all tracking numbers and the associated delivery/tracking reports and memorialize as much of it as possible.  That means saving electronic copies on a Disk or Thumb drive and perhaps even printing out copies of everything!  DO NOT assume that electronic records remain forever.  USPS tracking goes away after several months and eBay purges some data after 6-months.   You MAY need this evidence in the future if the seller does something stupid.  So best to be the one with the proof!

How to report the seller - use this process, outlined here:

Report an issue with a seller

third button is the one to use, as angelono noted, use the reason that the seller is threatening you.

But hey, if the seller files a police report and you kept the evidence noted above, you can supply said evidence to Law Enforcement and filing a false report is more serious than some alleged petty theft.

This is a common issue buyer request a return and ships item back. Then fallows the carriers delivery trucks to the sellers house. Then steal the item from their porch. 20 dollar item 200 dollars in gas 60 dollars a day for a hotel each night. So for a 3 day shipping 380 for travel to get a 20 dollar refund and keep the item.

Don't worry about the seller the tracking will cover you. After the item is delivered it is their responsibility to retrieve it from their porch or mail box.

And when you show the police the Ebay provided tracking number that states that the seller received the package, then what are they gonna do?

That's right...nothing.   Your seller is blowing hot air. You can bet your hiney that if a buyer told that seller that they didn't receive a package that was marked delivered, they would tell said buyer to go pound sand.

Some sellers just make my head hurt.
