I recieved a request for a return for a damaged item. Minutes later it said return closed. Does this mean they cancelled the return request? Maybe they accidentally put in for a return on the wrong item? If they are still trying to return the item can I ask for pictures for proof? They're saying a stuffed animal was damaged by water through a bubble wrap package...seems hard to believe.

If it says the request is closed then yes, the buyer must have cancelled the request.
You can ask for pictures when someone requests a return but if they won’t send one, eBay won’t require them to do so.

If the buyer closed it, that is a good thing for you!
It could be the buyer got her sellers mixed up, and it was not the stuffed animal she bought from you. So she closed the return with you and opened one for the correct seller.
Just speculation.
