I bought some batteries that are defective. They only cost about $3, but still, they are defective so I want my money back. I went through the return process and it created a prepaid return label... but I don't have a printer. Short of taking the time and money to go to somewhere where I can print the label, am I basically SOL for returns?

For all returns yes....unless your seller prints a PDF and mails it you or you spend your own money to mail it back.
Go to the library, a friends house...or better yet buy a printer.

Yup.
The seller is only responsible to authorize the label.

brian@ebay I've had a couple of these in the last few months as well. Maybe eBay should consider adding "all you need is a printer" to the "Click Here to Return"?

Yes, especially since Amazon's return system no longer requires the buyer to print a label, you can just walk into the UPS Store with the return authorization on your phone.

That's infinitely more hassle than taping a piece of paper on something and walking to your front door in less than 30 days.

Normally I would agree with you, but with Amazon you don't even have to package it anymore. You can just show them the barcode on the screen and hand it to Whole Foods or UPS store and then you are all done. They'll pack and ship (probably to prevent damage on returns?).
I like the idea of "All you need is a printer"....

Can you get a refund from Wal-Mart without returning defective batteries or any thing? Of course not.
I'm certain you have a friend, neighbor or someone that has a printer or just go to your local library. Problem solved for this $3.00 purchase.

I certainly agree that is a rather simple setup but I do not have a UPS store right outside my front door.
I may be in the minority there.

No Whole Foods or UPS Store here. The last time I had to return something to Amazon they gave me a USPS label to return it (years ago).
I guess as more and more people starting using only their tablets and phones they might not find the need for a printer but gosh, I print off a LOT of stuff that has nothing to do with labels or eBay etc. But then I'm one of those people who still likes paper copies of important things. LOL

Amen. I’ve had a few times that’s the only option it gave me. Considering my ups store is 30 mins away frustrating to say the least. I can print a label and drop it off at a local ups drop off on the way home from work takes me 10 seconds. Don’t need to go 30 mins to ups and 30 mins back. Now Amazon does allow you to have a label mailed now too though for a 1.00 fee

I haven’t felt the need for a printer at home since I graduated, but I’ve never had an issue finding a printer if needed at work, the library, friends, family print shop or community center.
i think it’s a bit overkill when some businesses include a return label with every shipment, mostly for the supply and ecological cost associated with it so I believe offering a printable label is a good compromise.
