Return address is WAY different than listing location

I purchased an item from within the US and requested the seller to cancel the purchase almost immediately after ordering, but the seller declined stating that they already processed the request, even though I ordered around 8pm.

 

Anyway, I'm trying to return the item but the return address is in Nanyang, China. The listing says the item is from New Jersey, and the shipment came from California. According to eBay's money back guarantee, " If the seller's return address is different to the item location specified in the listing, this should not result in an increased return cost for the buyer." Sending a package to China would cost $40 whereas domestic package would cost around $3.

 

I asked the seller to provide me a local return address, but the seller hasn't been very responsive. What should I do next?

Pre-pandemic, I had a similar experience.  At that time, I had contacted eBay Customer Service to report the problem.  Customer Service provided a similar response as displayed in @otow_18‘s screen capture.  Within the specified time period, the seller changed the address for the return.  After making several lame excuses which necessitated my contacting Customer Service again, the seller changed the address to the return address on the original shipping label.  I found the experience frustrating, especially since the seller delayed my refund after receiving the return of the item until just prior to the point at which eBay would have stepped-in to do so.  In the end, everything worked out all right.  So, do as @otow_18 suggests to request help from eBay, but keep track of the deadlines in case you need eBay to step-in to resolve the problem.
