Hi guys, looking for a little info...
A buyer informed me that an item I sold didn't work correctly. I accepted a return, but the return was due by July 20 and hasn't been returned (ebay shows that it hasn't been shipped). If I read right, ebay should auto close the dispute? Do I need to do something to get this moving or just wait a bit longer?
Thanks in advance!

Buyers get 35 calendar days; then ebay will open and close a 'case' to close that return, but that usually happens 5 to 10 days after that 35 days.
I wouldn't worry about it, it will fall off eventually and the buyer must've changed their mind.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough -- My auction stated "no returns" but I accepted the buyer's request to return the item. However, it's been just over 30 days and ebay shows that the seller has not shipped the item.

Click the help and contact link at bottom of page. See if you can get that case closed in your favor. Many buyers never get around to sending items back.

Thanks, is that how you always have to handle these or do they generally close automatically?

Thank you. I read an old post in the archives that suggested if you didn't take further action ebay wouldn't find in your favor. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss an important step!

eBay is no longer on the pandemic-extended return timelines since Jul 1; although the banners now say 10, down from 21, business days, that's just eBay's way or pretending to bend the rules for us: Instead, that's actually the policy written in Spring, and not an extension:
How much time are buyers given to ship returned items?
When buyers are sent an eBay-generated return label, the return is closed if the label is not printed within 10 business days. If the buyer prints the label, we allow the return to remain open an additional 5 business days to ensure shipping scans are captured.
So you still have an additional 5 business days to go before your return is considered abandoned and closes on its own, no reach-out to eBay needed nor will be entertained.
And the language is stupid: A "returned item" doesn't need to be shipped -- it's already been returned.
