This is another question about a buyer who is returning an item to me. eBay's message to me just said the buyer has requested a return, gives the reason, and states they've requested the buyer return the item by the 20th.
If eBay expected me to send a return label, they would have indicated that, wouldn't they? My listing stated returns accepted but buyer pays return shipping. I just want to be sure the buyer isn't expecting anything from me. In searching, I've found information stating eBay can charge shipping costs to the buyer, so I'm thinking the buyer must be able to print out an eBay label in order to return the item.
I found this in the Returns FAQ,:
My buyer started a return but never sent the item back to me. What should I do?
If the buyer does not send the item back, the return will time out and you are not required to refund the buyer. Your seller standing will not be impacted.
Sorry to have so many questions about the return, but I'd rather learn from others' experience rather than the hard way in this case. Right now I'm just under the impression that eBay would have given me further instructions if it was necessary.

It must be a buyer's remorse return, which means the buyer will pay for the return shipping, and getting a label or just going to the post office and shipping will be up to him. You don't need to be concerned until you get the item back.
What was the reason the buyer gave for returning it?

He claimed it didn't fit. It's a remote, not clothing, and the listing stated for the buyer to be sure it's the right model for their camera before ordering.

When a buyer wants to return something, one of the choices that eBay offers is "didn't fit ".

You only have to pay for return shipping if it is a case of item not as described,so you need to find out if a case has been open.
if it is a case of INAD,you will see an option of sending him a return label,if you do not,Ebay will and once he uses it,it will be charged to your seller account.

you may want to check your PAYPAL account to see if Ebay has withheld the payment.

Yes, there has been a hold on that money in PayPal ever since the buyer submitted the return request.
That was a pointless suggestion made to you since the funds are placed on hold whether it is a remorse or snad request. Anyway, "doesn't fit" is buyers remorse, the buyer is paying for return shipping. Ebay would have to told you that you were paying for return shipping when you were notified of the request, if it was an snad return:)

Since you have a return policy they just accept the return & allow the buyer to purchase a label as announced.
One you receive it back you have the 6 business days to refund.

Automatic Acceptance of Returns When Buyer Pays Shipping
Our new feature--automatic acceptance of returns--simplifies the returns process.
If your policy requires the buyer to pay for return shipping in cases of buyer remorse, requests for returns are accepted automatically and we’ll provide the buyer with a return shipping label. This only occurs when you’re OK with a buyer paying to ship back an item they no longer want.

"It can't be a case of INAD because the remote is as described"
False.

That's what I thought, that eBay would notify me about a label if I was responsible. "Doesn't fit" in my mind is buyer's remorse, but as I posted in response to someone else, I don't always think like eBay. Also I just thought that perhaps the buyer sent it back without tracking, but I don't see why he would if eBay supplies him with a label. The return would go to a PO Box that I don't go to every day since generally I have no need to. Tracking would let me know it's there since that address isn't available for Informed Delivery yet. I'll stop by tomorrow to check for sure.
Well eBay doesn’t give the buyer a free label, they make the buyer pay for it and sometimes the buyer can ship for less using a different shipping method & some buyers do choose to do that. Just watch the tracking, as Labs said buyer has 5 business days to ship the item back 🙂
