Hello,
I had an ebay return that I opened. The seller sent me a return shipping label.
The label was a "first class return service" as it said on the label. (but it is a different tracking number to the one that was originally used to deliver to me)
I dropped this off at the post office in a drop box on Tuesday, it is now Thurday evening and it is still in pre-shipment phase and not scanned.
When I look at the return on eBay and ebay website tracks the number - it says accepted and In Transit. I do not beleive it since the USPS still shows pre-shipment
Should I be worried? Or does the return servive not track all the way? What can I do about this?
Thank you

Thanks for everything. ! The eBay rep said they made a case note and update the case with the correct number and they read it back to me.
Should be good, I can see it out for delivery now, so I should know soon!
The number on that is displayed is still incorrect but at least once it is delivered they have the number on file or I can call in again!!
Thank you hafoster!! Not sure how you got the correct number but that was great!!!

Unfortunately, you have the worst possible stretch of 6 business days --
2 weekends (this Sat/Sun, next Sat/Sun), and 1 holiday (Monday) --
so it's Jan 23, ten calendar days away, till your refund is due.
@Anonymous
You still need to replace the tracking number on your returns page.
There's quite a good chance if you call back --
that there's no note on your case.
So the clock hasn't even started on your 6 business days --
as your returns page does not show delivered,
even though it did deliver today.
This is important
Your seller likely will be calling eBay --
to have the case closed in the seller's favor --
because you did not get a scan started within 5 days.
And this is how you're not getting a refund.

I'll try to get it updated it's tough explaining this type of stuff of eBay reps ad they have trouble understanding sometimes.
Worse comes to worse I can open a PayPal case if needed.
The eBay rep from this morning told me they updated the tracking information on thier end. So I'll have to trust them for now and if they screw up I'll go with PayPal.
I'm not sure if there is a different way to get hold of someone at eBay that will understand properly and do what needs to be done.

Just called ebay again, they can see the correct number on thier side and it shows as delivered to the seller.
Told me to call in after 6 days if the seller doesnt refund.
Hopfully it all puls through!
I'l update this post if the seller tries to pull a fast one....

Very good. But you need to know that case resolution is run by bots.
Meaning your return request needs to be at the 3rd green bubble now:Instead of stuck at the wrong tracking number your seller injected.
But time and again, it's reported that eBay Customer Support --
is helpless to override the bots, despite all verbal assurances.
And so this thread has been largely devoid --
as the other responders are cowering --
at the awesomeness of your seller.

So I just called eBay this morning and they escalted the case (so it is in review already) as I explained the tracking number was wrong. So lets see, either way I attached pictures of the tracking return details showing that it was delivered.
So they opened the case early for me on this one. Not sure why or how as usually they make you wait the full time to expire.

Well done, very well done!

To revisit, was this also an exploit:
How big was the package? The label was for only 4 ounces --
but it had to be delivered to a parcel locker?

So the refund was processed by ebay this morning thankfully, glad its done with.
The poackage was a very small box USPS priority mail box sizeish (I had nothing else to send it in) it was home alone 25th anniversary edition with the hat so the box was a bit large. but everything from that edition was missing except for the discs, so going to a parcel locker was makes sense since it would not fit in standard mailbox (depends on standard I suppose)

How do you find your 10 Digit Return ID number? I am having the same issue with a seller and a bad tracking number return and it won't let me mark it as shipped

You can’t mark anything shipped. If you were issued a label then the tracking number was uploaded for you and that’s why you can’t enter it yourself.

Hi there, I think I'm having the same problem, would you be able to help me figure out my correct tracking number? I dropped off the package on Tuesday, it's not Friday and there are no tracking updates 😞
