I have noticed that the rerstocking charge for listings has been removed. Does this mean we can no longer charge sellers a restocking charge?
I just sold an expensive item over $3000.00 Spoke with the buyer over the phone and he asked if there are retunes, I said no, I prefer you make sure the item you are purchasing the item you need as I'm a one man operation and returns waste time. He says I understand, let me measure mine and I'll call you back with the dimension to make sure and I said ok. I measure the unit I have and call him back with the dimension he ask for, with the unit in front of me. He says yes that is the same as mine and ask me to measure another part of the item, I do so and again he said yes this is the say part as mine. I'll make the purchase he says. He does make the purchase item is sent to him and wouldn't you know it he calls and emails back saying this does not fit what I have. He says mine has on the surface ACT 4 SN and the one he purchased from myself has ACT 5 SN and it clearly shows this in the listing pictures. Now he is asking for a return but I noticed that the restocking charge is no longer in the listing. I double checked this with trying to list another item and sure engough the drop down window in the section shipping and returns is no longer there. Before you had the option of 10, 15 and 20% restocking charge. So what is going on, did I miss some new update that ebay mentioned or sent out to sellers regarding this and I missed it, or am I the only lucky one???
I'm so tied of dealing with returns especially is this situation where the buyer and I spoke on the phone giving out specific demensions for fit and this happens. Absolutely ridiculous.

Restocking fee options were removed from everyone a few weeks ago.

I don't see this as a valid return. Do you have ebay messages from this buyer as well? I hope so. Otherwise it is a "he said" "she said" deal. I would fight this. If your listing clearly states the issues in question, it is a no brainer.

@mycarolinavintage the OP accepts 30 day returns so..... every return is valid and there is nothing to fight here. He has to accept the return.

I take it you missed the summer and spring 2018 updates? Restocking fees are no longer allowed as of June 1. However if you offer 30 day free returns then you can issue a partial refund if the buyer returns the item in an altered condition.

Because your return policy is 30 days w/ buyer paying shipping. IF the buyer filed the claim for Buy Remorse reasons, then they will have to pay for return shipping.
If you had separately stated shipping on the listing they purchased from, when it comes time to refund the buyer because you got the item back, you can withhold the original shipping charge. Again IF the buyer filed a Buyer's Remorse Request.
But if your buyer was less than honest and filed a SNAD, then you are stuck. You will have to pay return shipping and eat the original shipping. Ebay will do nothing, no matter how much proof you have, to revise the claim to a buyer's remorse.

Sometimes with these type of things(items) messages are not the best way to go. I do understand your point and 9 out 10 times it is email only for the reason you mention. Proof. But there again with EBay and PayPal that means nothing... It's all about their rules and who you talk to at the given time. The saying goes with EBay and Payal rules are subject to change at any time....
I appreciate your response. I do not offer free shipping nor do I accept returns. I also don't use emails for business with ebay or paypal. Never. Only messages in My eBay. It has worked for me.
Ebay can suggest anything. They are only suggesting.
Thankfully it has been rare for me to even have to contact either ebay or paypal. When I did, however, my communications from the buyer or seller through messages made the case easily settled in my favor. I still don't understand your being forced to take back something that was clearly described just because you stated returns are accepted. Do you not have an option to add:( those returns have to meet certain criteria)?
I don't accept returns and have never had to. Your situation is not good and it would so frustrate me.

Even if verbal contact was made discussing the purchase, I would still work it so there would be verifications of any agreements or gripes in my messages. Those are my records. Not having to resort to them except on rare occasions has been a good thing.

Well while that sound very good in theory, it isn't the reality of this site. Not everything is a "suggestion". There are hard and fast rules too and you must adhere to them, well until your caught not adhereing to them.
You just haven't had the priviledge of experiencing some of the things many of us have. And honestly that is a great thing as I don't wish it upon anyone.
You should review one of your listings. Specifically go to the shipping page. Look at how your Return policy presents. This is what your buyers see:

Email evidence in many cases does you not good at all here in Ebay. And PP won't accept an Ebay email as proof of anything. I certainly do encourage everyone to communication via Ebays M2M [member to member] because sometimes it does give you a little protection. So on the off chance it will, you are correct in doing what you are doing.

Seller does not offer returns.Refer to eBay Return policy for more details. You are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee if you receive an item that is not as described in the listing. And what that means is that IF you have a buyer that files a SNAD, you WILL BE accepting the return and you WILL BE refunding that buyer. Ebay requires this and you can review the MBG for all the particulars. Now if you get a buyer that files a Buyer's Remorse Return, that one you can deny if you choose, but you can't deny a SNAD.

Oh, I am so aware of the return policy and the money back guarantee. Thankfully, nothing has ever come back to me as being not as described. I am aware that stating I have a "no return policy " does not give me free rein to sell whatever garbage I can con a buyer into buying. I would not consider doing that anyway. That's just wrong in so many ways. Just saying.

Wow, are you suggesting that those that do get SNADs are selling "garbage" or trying to "con a buyer"?
