Hi @partfinds

The return trip usually takes considerably longer.  You should continue to see tracking updates  … but not necessarily an updated redelivery date.

I refused a USPS deliver last week (nothing to do with eBay) and I was watching the tracking.  It looked like it took twice as long to get sent back as it took to deliver to me.

It depends on the postal office handling the item. I have had some come back in a week and others took 3 months.

What ?😳

buyer bought item. And after I mailed it he told me to cancel . I told buyer he has to either refuse or request return. He first refused item and then came to open return request. I provided the same tracking nr and  case is open till package gets delivered. It has been a week or so. I don’t see any tracking update. I am hoping it is not lost. What happens when you open claim with usps— would it expedite the return/refused shipping ?  I feel I have to refund buyer before I receive package. Buyer also wants to recover square trade he bought and am not sure what the procedure is for items returned/cancelled

I've had it take 3 weeks.  It's also not uncommon for it to bounce back & forth between the 2 PO's b/c the scanning equipment is reading the original label (the one TO the buyer), so it needs manual intervention to pull off the conveyor & get it processed correctly.  That's what I've been told anyway.  After the 3rd or 4th time it bounced back & forth between my PO & the recipient's, someone finally pulled it by hand & it came back to me.   I don't recall the scan situation.

I think opening a missing mail case could certainly cause that manual intervention to happen sooner.   Every refusal I've had, has taken weeks to get back to me b/c the system is all automated & so it isn't readily apparent the item is meant to go back.

So what do you think? Shall I refund buyer now or wait a little bit more? I am afraid that buyer will get item and refund.

I would wait as long as you can, but I suspect you have a date you must do it by.   I don't take returns, so I'm not sure.   I'd hold off as long as I could & explain to the buyer what I explained to you about refusals taking a long time.

IME, when it's bounced back & forth, it doesn't make it all the way back to the buyer, just bounces between the 2 PO's, so I doubt your buyer will get it back, but it could happen I guess.

In the future, I would not give them refusal as an option.

Update of someone finds it helpful:

package received following the claim filing; refused 2.25 delivered back to me 3.4; mail search didn’t help at all —no tracking update

as for Ebay case

after refunding fully to the buyer as I appreaciated honesty (buyer states immediately it won’t fit and he refused package) , Ebay didn’t close case automatically as usually when you refund fully ; i had to contact customers] support but they didn’t tell me what the problem was . They pushed case clise without escalation ebay told me it is normal cases close within 24 hours. While it is not normal for me —fully refunded cases close within half an hour after refund. I also had to ask for ad fee credit as it wasn’t prcessed automatically when you normally process full refund.

I was standing in line at the post office yesterday and the woman ahead of me was complaining about how long it was taking for an important letter to be returned, that it had been two weeks and her daughter still hadn’t received the return.  The agent said that was normal that it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks for a letter or package to be returned.
