So I got the coin back, all in the exact same condition as sent (which I am thankful for).
I went on my phone to refund him while I was at the post office, but I'm a little confused about the options here...
It gave me the option to not refund the outbound shipping (even though I had to provide a label and return). I didn't realize not refunding the shipping was an option with the item was SNAD (and it definitely was filed as a SNAD in the return request).
Also it gave me the option to deduct some money from the return, which I also didn't know was an option in the case of a SNAD.
I do not have free returns, or anything like that which would allow me the privilege of withholding part of a return. So I wondered if someone could fill me in on this.
The last time I did a return was buyer's remorse (about 6 months ago) and it did allow me to withhold the postage which I would expect in a remorse case. I can't remember the last time I did a return on a SNAD... I might have gone ahead and refunded in full (on a cheap item), or given a partial refund because I didn't want it back, but the return part hasn't happened much in my store. (Not because I don't take items back, but because I get so few return requests).

If you are a top rated seller you have a few options when a buyer claims Snad. (and even if it is a regular remorse return)
If the reason that gave is baloney or they ruined the item or they sent back the wrong item, you can withhold a portion of the return as well as the shipping.
ebay ends up refunding them the difference if they dispute it, as far as I can tell. The case also stays open until the buyer "receives the refund" In other words, they give the buyer time to dispute it.
If you withhold something, just make it clear in the case why you are doing it and include photos. I suspect that there is abuse of this policy and it's good to be clear to the buyer and ebay why you are not giving a full refund.
