you aren't required to return to the item to Isreal. Ebays policy is that you are required to return it to the item location. That said, if you are responsible for return shipping then you chose a buyers remorse reason when you opened the return request. You can contact customer service and tell them that the item was shipped & sold in the US and the return address is international and also request them to change the request to an SNAD request so that the seller pays for return shipping.

Is it eBay's policy not to inform the buyer that returns will have to be sent international even though you purchased from a US based seller, or do they just allow the seller to enter any return address they want?
When the seller is paying for return shipping, it can enter any return address it wants.
However, if the seller is international* to the buyer, it cannot issue a return shipping label and so eBay tells the buyer to pay for return shipping first.
*but claims a US-based item location
See "we'll ask the seller to reimburse you" in this example:

Items purchased from a US based listing do not have to be returned to an international address and for a SNAD, seller pays return shipping. I suppose if they want it to be returned to Israel, they can pay for it. My guess is they are trying to trick unsuspecting buyers into dropping the issue. Show them you won't.
I just feel sorry for all the folks they sold to who didn't come to the boards to ask. Hey eBay, you allowing seller to pull this carp is why all our buyers are leaving for other venues. Stop it now before more buyers bail. You let the Chinese sellers do it and now all sellers are giving it a shot.
