Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

Hi, this is the second time I've had a problem with this program when shipping parts to other countries...
The issue with the current package is that the buyer is from Chile and the package originally left Nevada, USA (origin), went to Redondo Beach, then Compton (so far it's normal) and then somehow made it to Speyer, Germany, yes, Germany.... It has now departed Frankfurt and I'm hoping it somehow makes it to Chile and not another bizarre destination.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I complain to DHL or eBay?

That's definitely the long route to Chile.😮

I don't think you sent that through the global shipping program. It looks like you used ebay standard international so if the package does get lost, you can put in a claim for up to $100 in insurance.

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

DHL is the carrier for eBay Standard via their ecommerce service should you choose to check tracking on their site. I gave up on this service a while back. Packages take too long and I had to hand hold customers until they arrived.  It's a bad service and eBay should kill it.

In my experience, international buyers are aware of the shipping costs from US and factor that in. In the case of what I sell, even with shipping they are getting better prices then they would pay in home country.

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

I definitely used the eBay Global Shipping Program with eBay Intl. Standard.

I printed a USPS label that went to the distribution center in California and then eBay relabeled the package with a DHL and it somehow made it to Germany instead of Chile.

I really hope it makes it to the buyer, I wouldn't like to be stuck refunding and then fighting with eBay and DHL to refund me 😞

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

I understand what you mean but your terminology is confusing.  There are two separate programs, the global shipping program (GSP) AND  ebay international standard delivery (EISD). They each have different seller protection  and are handled differently so if you say you used global shipping other posters are going to give you advice for that program rather than for the program that you did use ....ebay international standard.

When a seller uses the GSP, the package is always sent to Kentucky. When a seller uses EISD, the package may be sent to Kentucky but it can also be sent to the depot in California or in other states.

I just noticed that you do have some listings set up with the GSP and other listings set up with EISD

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

They should definitely get rid of it if they can't get it together. This isn't my first problem with using this method of shipping and it seems that more people have had issues also.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

I am using the GSP, as you can see here:

Within the GSP there's multiple options and the one I've always used (because is the least expensive for the buyer) is the eBay Intl. Standard Delivery.

I may have confused the Program with the shipping method, but I AM using the Global Shipping Program.

I believe there is an automatic $100 insurance on any EINSD package.

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

I think that it is important that you realize how you are shipping so that you know which options are available to you when there is a problem so I will try again to explain.

There are not multiple shipping options with the GSP.  When you use it, you don't choose a specific international method to ship with.   You definitely do not use ebay international standard when you use the gsp because it is a program all on its own as you will see if you look at the links provided in my last post.

As I don't use either of those programs as a seller, I can't explain to you why some of your listings are the gsp and some are ebay international even though you have the gsp checked off but I do see the differences when I look at your listings as an international buyer.

The first two screenshots are of item 154466678004 which is set up with the GSP.   They show the shipping method at the top of the listing and under the shipping/payment tab. Note that gsp listings show that they use 'International Priority Shipping' which is just a generic term and under the shipping tab they do have an area showing that there may be import charges which will be prepaid.

The last two screenshots are of item 154466653549 which is set up with ebay international standard.  Note that in the shipping and payment tab there is no mention of import charges and this method does not collect duty and taxes when the buyer pays.  That is collected by the courier when they deliver the item.  That's just one of the ways that the gsp is different than ebay international.

If you go into one of your listings and click on the shipping tab, change your location to an international one such as the UK and click on see rates.  You will see the when the gsp is being used it will always show it as International Priority Shipping and when ebay international standard is being used, it will show that.  You can choose either the gsp or ebay international, you can't use both in one listing.

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

I appreciate you taking the time to point that out, I am not sure why eBay handles different packages differently when checking the GSP box for shipping, could be due to the dimensions I provided maybe.

Anyways, they need to sort this madness out, the weird and random assignment of GSP/Intl. Shipping Carriers and the crazy delays due to shipping parts all around the world before going to destination.

Thanks again!

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

Just to update this post, the item still shows it's in Frankfurt, Germany.
I'm losing faith that it will ever reach the buyer...

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

After a month since it departed Germany, the item has been marked as delivered by DHL (waiting on customer confirmation)

Re: Problem with Shipping using eBay Global Shipping Program

You are offering 2 different services in that screenshot. You checked the GSP box. Underneath that you added ISD as an option. What you need to do (if you want to use GSP exclusively) is go into any listing that offers ISD and where it says "other shipping options" and underneath where you have "calculated" selected - change "calculated" to "none."

You're offering 2 different services, but it seems you want to offer only one @thomaalvare-1.\

You may ask why those options exist. My GF has an account that uses the GSP. She also offers calculated shipping to Canada and select other locations because it's more cost effective for the buyer and because USPS offers edelcon service. The direct shipping option supersedes any GSP selection for the countries specified. In your case, you've selected "worldwide" and the calculated option will supersede the GSP option unless you change it.
